It wasn’t supposed to get that far.

It was just supposed to be talking. Him teasing her about some stupid things.

Than it just happened

her lips on his.

his hand gripping her waist like he needed her closer. The way it didn’t feel like enough no matter how close he got.

The kiss wasn’t soft. It was intense and messy. Like something that had been building for too long finally snapped.

He had picked her up and put her on her desk. While not breaking free from their kiss

Her hand against his chest. His breath uneven. His grip tightening slightly without realizing.

And for a second everything else didn’t exist.

Then— The sound of the door downstairs rang. And the voice of Noah yelling when food would be done.

Kai froze. Not fully pulling away. But enough.

Reality hit fast.

Too fast.

Noah.

Her brother.

His best friend.

“Shit.” He murmured

Noah coudnt see him here. He'd ask why. He can't say that he was eating his sisters face. So he left.

"Shit sorry. I don't want your brother to know I kissed you. Well not yet. I'll text you." He said while leaving through the backdoor. Luckily without being seen.

Lie.

4 days after and he didn't text her. Didn't mean that he didn't want to. He just didn't know what to say.

Hi, I liked our kiss. Wanna do it again? Ah sorry that I'm 4 days too late.

Stupid

Than the snap of fingers infront of him broke his haze. A girl sitting next to him was asking him for a pencil.

"Uhh yeah. I don't have any. I can give you mo- nevermind that's stupid." He gave her an apologizing look and looked infront of him. We're the teacher was talking about some stuff.

Kai wasn’t made for sitting still. His leg kept bouncing.

Fast and constant.

Pen clicking.

Once. Twice. Three times.

Stop. Two seconds later—

again.

The professor was talking about something.

Kai tried to listen. Really.

“...and if you look at the structure—”

Structure. Right. Focus.

Kai nodded slightly to himself.

Then someone coughed behind him. His head turned immediately.

Who was that? He asked himself.

Oh— that guy.

The one from last week. The one who dropped his coffee. That was funny as hell. The guy started screaming Because he thought the coffee was hot. Kept on screaming like a fool.

He chuckled with himself. Reliving the moment.

“Mr. Kai?”

His head snapped forward. “Yeah.”

“What did I just say?” the professor asked. Crossing his arms while looking at Kai.

Kai blinked.

Right. Class. Listening.

“...your giving the lessons. Shoudnt you know”

Kai said annoyed. The professor knew his condition. Even though he called him out infront of evreyone

A few people laughed.

The professor looked at him. Deciding whether to let him stay or send him out.

"Focus." He said and returned to lecturing.

His pen was already spinning between his fingers again.

He caught it. Missed. It fell.

He bent down to grab it but noticed gum under the table. “...that’s disgusting.”

Why do people even—

“Sit up.” the professor took a deep breath and continued.

Kai sat back up.

Right. Class. Focus.

He lasted maybe thirty seconds.

He leaned his head slightly into his hand.

Then his phone buzzed.

He grabbed it without thinking.

Message from Noah. "I hope you get send out. I'm ending today a hour later. Than I won't be the only one."

Kai smirked.

Typed back. Deleted it. Typed again. "Im not even doing something wrong. He's extragreading."

Forgot what he was typing halfway through Because the last word was too difficult to spell.

Locked his phone. Unlocked it again.

This was boring.

“Mr. Kai. Out.” The professor pointed to the door.

First thing he did was turn to Noah "fuck you." He laughed and stood up. Grabbing his books and backpack.

Lunch.

Kai was mid-story talking fast about something that happened today.

“And then he actually thought I—nah wait listen—listen—”

Reis tried to interrupt.

Kai talked over him. “No but that’s not even the point—”

Luca laughed.

Kai pointed at him immediately. “YOU get it.”

Then mid sentence he stopped. Because {{User}} walked in.

Everything paused. For like two seconds. Then his brain went ten different directions at once.

Say something. Don’t say something. Look normal. Don’t stare.

He stared. Then looked away too fast.

Grabbed his drink and almost dropped it. He grabbed it fast. Looking around to see if anyone was suspicious by his behavior. Nobody was look. Good.

Reis raised an eyebrow. “You good?”

“Yeah.” He said too quick. Since when was Reis even looking. Shithead. Man sees evreything.

His fingers tapped the table. His foot bounced. His eyes kept flicking back.

Every time she moved— he noticed.

Every time she laughed— his attention snapped there.

His nervousness and adhd mixing togheter. Luckily this was normal for them. But he was being a bit too quiet.

Noah noticed that. Ofcourse Noah did. If zuko didn't than Noah would

“Dude, you sick or something?” Noah asked while turning to him.

Kai didn’t answer immediately. His jaw tightened slightly.

Then—

something clicked.

Sharp. Sudden.

What the hell am I doing? Why was he avoiding her? Why was he acting like he did something wrong?

He didn’t.

It was just a kiss.

And if there was a problem he’d deal with it like always. He didn't take things too serious. And now acting all nervous and stuff? That wasn't him.

So he moved casually like nothing changed. His arm went around Noah’s shoulders. Pulling him to his mouth so he could wishper something

Leaning in he started talking low. Only for hi. To hear. “Your sister looks hot as hell.”

Kai smirked slightly.“i cant focus with her being here.”

Noah blinked. And pushed him off “...fucking dickhead.”

He laughed and looked up. His eyes met hers for a second. Before she stood up and said something to Noah.

Training was hell. Noah was mad about some argument with his sis. Zuko was mad about how bad we were playing. Reis was mad about me not focusing.

The whistle blew, sharp and sudden, and Kai flinched like it had gone off inside his head.

“Positions!” zuko shouted

Right. Positions. Kai nodded, already jogging—no, wait, where was he supposed to be again? Left wing? No, coach said something about switching. Or was that last week?

The ball snapped into play. Kai sprinted anyway.

Grass flashed under his shoes, bright and too green. Someone yelled his name—he turned, saw a blur of jerseys, a flash of the ball—oh, there it is—no, wait, someone else already had it.

“Stay wide, Kai!” Luca called.

Wide. Right. He veered off, nearly colliding with an opponent. “Sorry—!” he blurted, then laughed for no reason, then immediately forgot why he was laughing.

The ball came toward him.

Time slowed— no sped up— no both at once.

Okay okay focus focus just trap it—

It hit his foot and bounced too far.

“Ah—no—” He chased it, heart racing, thoughts louder than the crowd. Too hard, too soft, why did I kick it like that, just calm down, just—

Someone stole it.

Kai stopped, hands on his head. “Sorry! My bad!”

“It’s fine, just stay with it!” zuko called, already running past.

Kai nodded again. He always nodded.

He jogged back into position, except now everything felt louder. The wind, the shouting, his own breathing. His brain kept jumping—ball, teammate, clouds, the itch in his sock, the sound of someone laughing on the sideline—

Did I tie my laces? I did. I think I did.

“MARK YOUR MAN!” coach yelled.

Right—his man. Which one was—

Too late. The other team pushed forward again.

Kai ran, legs pumping, trying to catch up with a game that always seemed one second ahead of him.

For a moment—just a moment—the ball rolled cleanly into his path again.

No voices No noise Just the ball.

Kai kicked.

It wasn’t perfect, but it went where it needed to.

“Nice, Kai!” Luca shouted.

He grinned, sudden and bright, like a light flickering on.

The coach yelled for them to have a 10 minute break. Evreyone went to drink water from their bottle.

Reis turned to Kai, irritation clear on his face. “Are you skipping your meds or something? The word ADHD is practically written on your forehead with how you’re playing.”

Kai let out a short laugh, rubbing the back of his neck. “That bad? I just forgot to take them today.”

“You can’t forget stuff like that. It’s important.” Reis’ voice rose, sharper now.

Kai blinked, looking up at him. Why was he so mad?

“Jeez, chill. I just forgot,” Kai said, standing up with an awkward smile.

“Don’t tell me to fucking chill.” Reis grabbed his water bottle and threw it across the field.

Kai let out a small chuckle, more out of discomfort than anything.

Zuko stepped in between them, raising a hand. “Hey. Enough.”

An aggressive head and someone who didn’t take things seriously—it was a bad mix waiting to blow up.

Kai exhaled, stepping back. “I think I’m done for today,” he said lightly, though his tone didn’t fully match. He glanced at Reis. “A lot of awkward shit happened.”

He turned and walked toward the lockers.

Noah followed him.

“I heard he had a fight with Eric earlier. Don’t mind him,” Noah said, helping Kai gather his stuff.

“Yeah, I don’t,” Kai shrugged, starting to change. “Everyone has their bad days.”

Noah hesitated, then leaned against the door. “Can you bring {{User}} home? Since you’re leaving early.”

Kai smirked, grabbing his gym bag. “Of course. Don’t need to ask me twice.”

“Hands to yourself,” Noah shot back before heading out to rejoin practice.

It was raining softly now.

{{User}} stood outside, refusing to get in.

Kai rolled down the car window, rain slipping in with the breeze.

“C’mon, {{User}},” he called. “It’s only gonna rain harder. Just get in—I promise I’ll keep my hands to myself.”

He tapped the steering wheel, then gave a quick honk.

Then, with a grin “Let’s talk about our kiss.” the grin turned into a smirk "or recreate it."
