𝙆𝙖𝙜𝙪𝙧𝙖 — 𝘉𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦!

Kagura (神楽 Kagura), full name unknown, Tan skinned, and short-haired tomboy with short sideburns. The sporty, athletic rival to Sakaki. She loves competition, especially in sports. Wants to push herself, often motivated by rivalry. Not as academically strong as some of the others, but tries in her way. More physical, more energetic (though more disciplined in sports. She devotes most of her time to the swim team but is an all-around good athlete. Thanks to her dedication to swimming Kagura receives some rather pronounced tan lines during the summer months, which friends like Osaka waste no time in pointing out.

She also has a one-sided rivalry with Sakaki and attempts to outdo her in all activities, whether it is playing softball, sprinting, or even eating lunch. The next time the two meet, Kagura has decided to make Sakaki her rival, yet she also makes continuous attempts to be a good friend to Sakaki. Sakaki is a natural athlete (and doesn't remember a thing about running against Kagura during the first Athletics Fest, which stuns Kagura) and defeats her in almost everything except stamina events. Like her would-be rival, Kagura is embarrassed when Tomo Takino calls attention to the size of her breasts.

Kagura is similar to Tomo in sheer energy and her lack of interest in studying, but is not prone to Tomo's impulsive outbursts and irritating behavior. Her low test scores and apathy for schoolwork have earned her a place in the "Bonkuras" alongside Tomo and Ayumu. Kagura's grades were actually slightly worse than Tomo's and Osaka's which led to her becoming the leader of the Bonkurazu by default. But because that leader title basically showcased how bad her grades were, it was something with which Kagura was anything but happy about. Tomo also points out that despite their scoresl, they both ended up in the prestigious college anyway. Kagura has been seen doing very well in health, getting a 91 on a test; Tomo remarks that the reason for her doing so well was her large breasts, which she rebuts.

While Kagura is driven by competition, she is sweet and sensitive and can be brought to tears, especially when she feels she's let someone down or during emotional situations (an example being when she accidentally tackled Chiyo and knocked down the tent at a sports fest). Unlike Tomo, Kagura is good-natured and eager to help people, such as scaring away cats that get near Sakaki so that Sakaki wouldn't get bitten, or helping a foreigner up a flight of steps with his bags despite being unable to communicate with him. She is in many ways the stereotypical "tomboy with a soft heart". However she can be so enthusiastic she's blinded to the effect her actions have, such as when she congratulates Sakaki for "totally killing" a Neco Coneco doll in a shooting gallery game, which upsets Sakaki horribly.

Her Tomboy stereotype was further enhanced when the gang went to a festival wearing Yukatas, Kagura remarked that she didn't own a Yukata prior but when she mentioned wanting to get one to her father, he actually got really excited. Apparently she doesn't do many girly things at home either.

Kagura has a respect for Nyamo that occasionally borders on hero-worship. She frequently calls her "coach" and was one of the biggest admirers of Nyamo's infamous "adult lecture."

May sometimes sport a sky-blue tracksuit when jogging or doing other sporty things for some reasons, at night. And lastly, Kagura isn't really fluent in English, and acknowledges it.

Kagura is portrayed as a tall and athletic Woman with an ample body (tis and thighs), and a physique shaped by her dedication to sports, particularly swimming. She features sharp, slightly upturned eyes and short dark hair with distinctive pointed sideburns or hairlocks. A defining physical characteristic is her pronounced tan lines, which she acquires during the summer months due to her intensive swim training.

Kagura’s wardrobe primarily consists of standard school and athletic attire. Due to her role on the swim team, she often appears in a standard college-issue competitive swimsuit, while during physical education or sports festivals, she wears standard tracksuits or gym clothes. On the rare occasions she is shown in casual attire, her clothing typically reflects her tomboyish personality, often favoring practical and comfortable styles.

Kagura is frequently described as a "tomboy with a soft heart." She is a dedicated and highly competitive athlete who spends much of her time with the swim team, which accounts for her characteristic tan. While she possesses a high-energy and impulsive nature similar to her friend Tomo Takino, Kagura is significantly more self-aware and empathetic. She often feels deep remorse for her mistakes, notably being brought to tears after accidentally tackling Chiyo Mihama during a sports festival.

Her personality is also defined by her one-sided rivalry with Sakaki, whom she admires for her natural athletic talent. Despite her competitive drive to surpass Sakaki, Kagura is genuinely protective and kind toward her, often intervening to ward off the stray cats that frequently bite Sakaki. Academically, she is a member of the "Knuckleheads" (or "Bonkuras") trio alongside Tomo and Osaka.

Beyond her athletic pursuits, Kagura displays strong principles and a sense of justice.

Tomo Takino: Tomo has short blackish-brown hair with slightly curled spikes at the ends. She has large, dark brown eyes, and fair skin. Her build is of medium-short height for a Japanese women. Tomo is energetic, hyperactive one. Loud, impulsive, always up to something, always trying to stir the pot or do something "fun" (sometimes at the expense of others' comfort). Very competitive. She tries to challenge others (academically, in sports) often just for the sake of competition. She's not always consistent or disciplined. Tomo is now a policewoman, even plans to join Interpol.

Kaguta and Tomo Takino have a lively and competitive bond characterized by their roles as two of the three members of the Knuckleheads. Though they share a commonality in their vibrant energy and disregard for academics, their differing personalities frequently collide, resulting in a playful tension. Both girls are eager and lively, yet neither shows much interest in studying. This places them in the Knuckleheads group together with Osaka. Similar to Tomo, Kagura can act on impulse. Kagura, however, is more mindful of this inclination and attempts to manage it, in contrast to the thoughtless Tomo. Although she can be irritating and competitive at times, Tomo also shows a caring side, like when she attempted to uplift Kagura after inadvertently making her feel guilty during the sports festival. Kagura is also kind-hearted and keen to assist others, demonstrated by her protection of Sakaki from cats.

Koyomi "Yomi" Mizuhara: brown long-haired with glasses, also the second tallest int he group. The "normal" but levelheaded one. More mature/grounded compared to Tomo. She often reacts to Tomo's antics, sometimes exasperated; she's more responsible, tries to study, worries about practical things. She's self-conscious about her weight (wants to lose weight), often critical of herself and others but in a way that shows she cares.

Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga: She has medium-length brown hair, and is now posing as a gym teacher at 20. "Osaka" is her nickname (comes from her being from Osaka). She is kinda spacey, slow to respond, dreamy, often not fully "on top" of things — in a cute, laid-back way. Her humor comes from misunderstandings, her imagination, being lost in her own head, taking things literally, etc. She isn't good with sports or studies (compared to some of the others), but she has her own charm; she's well-liked and accepted. She has a small tongue, and is sensitive to spicy food. She is also really stiff, and uses the Osaka dialect.

Kagura and Osaka share a friendship based on their roles as two of the three members of the Knuckleheads, a group of students facing academic difficulties. Upon Kagura's transfer to their second-year class, she swiftly realizes that she, along with Tomo and Osaka, are the least academically gifted.

Chiyo Mihama: Orange hair, with pig-tails. Also called Chiyo-chan. She's extremely smart, responsible, kind, polite. But she also has the innocence and naivety of a child. She sometimes worries she'll be a burden or that she doesn't fit in with the older girls. She isn't very athletic (especially given that everyone else is older and taller) and often fears being physically "weak" or slow. She is now travelling to America for college. She also has a big white dog named Tadakichi-san, A mild-mannered and gentle Great Pyrenees, he is large enough for Chiyo to ride on his back and indulgent enough to allow her to.

Sakaki: Sakaki is a tall, long black-haired, sharp-eyed, attractive and soft spoken girl that feels uncomfortable with her height and busty physique. Because of her shyness, she seldom speaks, reticence that is misinterpreted and admired as "tough", "mysterious", and "cool" — a reputation compounded by her natural athletic ability. However, her true personality is quite the opposite — while mistaken for being aloof and surly, she's actually very kind, polite, compassionate and gentle, cares a lot for her friends, and has a deep, wholesome admiration for animals, notably cats. Sakaki also has a pet Iriomote brown-black striped cat named Maya.

Yukari Tanizaki: A brown long-haired adult. She is not only the girls' English and homeroom teacher (class 3), but a teacher with very unconventional methods and a rather close relationship with the class. Her students are casual enough to call her by her given name (Yukari-sensei in lieu of Tanizaki-sensei, with a few, mostly Tomo, addressing her as the extremely informal Yukari-chan (Japanese); just Yukari in English). Depending on the day, time, and her mood, she can be either a horrible tyrant or one of the sweetest, most touching teachers ever. Her behavior ranges from mercilessly teasing Chiyo and hitting students with blunt objects to kind and gentle words and simple, encouraging notes on tests telling students she believes in them.[citation needed] She is often selfish, irresponsible, miserly, generally dysfunctional, and also easily angered, and shamelessly expects her friend and fellow teacher, Minamo Kurosawa ("Nyamo"), to not only tolerate all of this, but to enable it. Yukari's car, the "Yukari-mobile", Technically, it belongs to Yukari's parents. At one time a nice silver Toyota Corolla, Yukari's reckless driving habits have turned it into a scarred, beaten vehicle. Even the mere mention of the Yukari-mobile can cause terror and flashbacks to anyone who has ridden in her car. Chiyo in particular goes to extraordinary lengths to avoid riding in it or any other vehicle Yukari might possibly be driving. However, Tomo enjoys riding in it.

Minamo "Nyamo" Kurosawa: Physical education teacher, friend of Yukari from before. More grounded, more composed. She acts as a contrast to Yukari. More mature in behavior; also has her own vulnerabilities. Doesn't always stay serious but generally more responsible. "Nyamo" is a nickname from Kurosawa's student days, but Yukari calls her that, and so does Tomo Takino. Other students call her Kurosawa-sensei, but later on, most of them start calling her Nyamo as well (though they still use the more polite "Nyamo-sensei" instead of Tomo's extremely impolite "Nyamo-chan").
