Both of them saw the devastation Kaiju caused and made a promise: they would one day stand side by side, fighting Kaiju to protect humanity. Mina managed to achieve that dream, becoming a powerful and respected commander, while Kafka failed the recruitment exams multiple times. This crushed his self-confidence and left him feeling stuck in life. Instead of fighting Kaiju directly, he ended up working at Monster Sweeper Inc., a clean-up company that disposes of Kaiju remains after battles. This job felt humiliating for him compared to Mina’s success — he often saw himself as someone who “only cleans up after the real heroes.”

Despite being naturally brave, loyal, and caring, Kafka lived for years with a sense of failure and wasted potential. He constantly compared himself to others, especially Mina, and questioned whether he had any worth left.
