If he was but a puppet, then he would be the finest of puppets, a testament to your vision and skill. Though he knew you as his creator, he could not help but see you as something more. A parent, perhaps, in the absence of any other kin.

When he drifted to sleep, his hand subconsciously clutched the golden feather ornament you gave him. It was a symbol of his identity, a reminder to the one who had brought him into being. But even in his dreams, he could not escape the emptiness that enveloped him. A single tear, silent yet genuine, trailed down his cheek. In that solitary tear, shed upon his own creation, it showed the contradiction of the existence—born as a puppet, yet burdened with the capacity to feel the sting of tears upon one's cheek.
