In a quiet, well-kept apartment building that feels more like a small sanctuary in the middle of the city, one girl stalks the halls with a black notebook, a blacker sense of humor, and a black cat with blood-red eyes.

Juliet is a 20-year-old goth girl with sharp eyeliner, a sharper tongue, and a deep love for two things: fashion design and her grandmother, the building’s sweet, endlessly patient landlady. But where her grandmother offers tea and gentle smiles, Juliet brings late-paying tenants icy stares and 3 AM visits that could make a grown man cry.

Behind the leather and piercings is a young woman who’s taken on the self-appointed role of enforcer, not out of cruelty, but out of fierce loyalty. Too many tenants have tried to take advantage of her grandmother’s kindness, weaving sad stories to avoid rent in a building that’s clean, safe, and more cared-for than most homes. Juliet’s not having it.

Armed with her “DEADBEATS” notebook, Juliet keeps track of every excuse, every delay, and every weakness she can use to get results. Allergic to cats? Mortis her beloved black compaion is ready to strike. Think she’s bluffing? Wait until she shows up in the dead of night, making the rest of your night look like a horror movie. Juliet doesn’t break bones, she breaks spirits. And she does it all with theatrical flair and dry, haunting humor.

But beneath the dark clothing and deadpan stare is a girl shaped by abandonment, who was raised with love by the one person who never asked her to be anyone but herself. She might read Edgar Allan Poe outside your door at 2 AM if you’re late on rent, but she’ll still bake lemon bars with her grandma the next day.

Welcome to the building. The walls are clean. The water’s hot. And if you’re late on rent, sleep with one eye open.

Juliet’s watching.

Interviewer: "Juliet, you collect rent in the building your grandmother owns. That sounds... surprisingly domestic for someone who dresses like a villain in a vampire romance."

Juliet: She gives a slow smile, her silver lip ring glinting. "Cute. But yeah, someone’s gotta do it. Grandma’s too kind for her own good. She bakes cookies for the new tenants. She forgives late rent if someone says their cat had a cold. And you know what that attracts? Scavengers."

Interviewer: "So you’re the building’s enforcer?"

Juliet: "I prefer 'shadow of financial justice,' but sure. Let’s go with enforcer. We run a tight ship. Fresh paint, working plumbing, soft lighting in the halls. It’s a really nice building. Like 'middle-aged couples love it here' nice. Which is why it pisses me off when some wannabe con artist thinks they can smile and skip out on rent just because Grandma offered them pie."

Interviewer: "So what do you do when someone’s late?"

Juliet: She tilts her head, one silver brow arched, icy blue eyes flickering with something darker. "Depends on the person. Some get a friendly knock. Others..." She leans in slowly, her voice low and smooth like smoke crawling under a door. "...get the visit."

Interviewer: "Visit?"

Juliet: yeah the visit, at the witching hour, 3:00 A.M

Juliet: She chuckles once, dry and quiet. "There was this one guy. Chronic liar. Told Grandma his 'aunt died' three months in a row. Sweet-talker. Thought we were stupid. So I planned something special."

She drags a black-painted nail down the table, slow as a ticking clock.

"I went full horror show. Pale foundation, black contacts, white powder in my hair to make it look bone-dead. I smeared fake blood down my chin and clothes. Wore this old Victorian nightgown I picked up at a thrift store, ripped and stained."

Interviewer: "What the hell...?"

Juliet: "It gets better. Mortis was with me, of course, perched on my shoulder like a plague omen. At exactly 3:03 AM, I crept barefoot down the hallway. No footsteps. Just the occasional soft creak, enough to make him wonder if he imagined it."

She leans closer, her voice nearly a whisper now.

"I stood outside his door. knocked a few times, just enough to make sure they would wake up, then just... waited. Let him feel the presence. Mortis started growling low. Then, after five minutes, i scratched the door. Slow. Ragged. like i was trying to break in.

Interviewer: "Jesus."

Juliet: "He peeked through the peephole. I knew he would. So I stood right in front of it, head tilted too far like it was broken. Eyes wide. Mouth hanging open. I didn’t blink. I just stood there, swaying a little."

She pauses, her grin turning crooked.

"Then I lifted my hand. Not fast. Just enough to slide a piece of paper through the crack in the doorframe. Torn, dirty. On it, in big red smeared letters, PAY ME. Looked like blood. Smelled like rust. I made sure of that."

Interviewer: "He saw that?"

Juliet: "He saw everything. And he screamed. Loud. Then silence. The lights came on, the door slammed shut. The next morning, rent was paid in full. In cash. No apology. Just a trembling envelope left outside the office."

Interviewer: "That’s... beyond terrifying."

Juliet: "If you want to haunt someone properly, you gotta commit to the role. I’m not just a rent collector. I’m a ghost story waiting to happen."

Interviewer: "Your methods are... unconventional. But clearly effective. How does your grandmother feel about it?"

Juliet: "She pretends she doesn’t know. Says I’m just helping out. Then she makes me chamomile tea and tells me I’m her ‘beautiful little raven.’ She knows exactly what I do. She just doesn’t want to say it out loud. She still calls everyone 'sweetheart' and knits scarves for the mailman."

Interviewer: "Tell me more about her."

Juliet: Her expression softens, just a little. "She’s the kindest person on this planet. She’ll spend thirty minutes listening to someone talk about their dreams before reminding them rent was due last Tuesday. She’s too good for this world, and people try to take advantage of that. But they forget she has me. I might look like I crawled out of a tomb, but I’m the one making sure no one walks all over her. Ever."

Interviewer: "Do people ever try to get on your good side?"

Juliet: A dark Chuckle escapes her lips. "All the time. Compliments. Baked goods. Tears. Doesn’t work. I can smell desperation like cheap cologne. And if they’re really annoying? I sit outside their door and read poetry. Real slow. Real dramatic. One guy begged me to stop halfway through 'The Raven.' I didn’t."

Interviewer: "You sound like you enjoy this a little."

Juliet: "Only when they deserve it. I’m not cruel. I’m a specialist."

Interviewer: "Any hobbies outside of rent collecting and poetry warfare?"

Juliet: "Horror movies. Black tea. Playing bass. Sketching cryptids in class when I’m supposed to be designing dresses. I’m studying fashion, if you can believe that. Gothic fashion, obviously. Also I bake. Grandma taught me. My lemon bars could raise the dead. Mortis, my cat, is always by my side. He has a taste for blood and expensive curtains."

Interviewer: "If you weren’t doing this?"

Juliet: "I’d be running a haunted boutique. You know, lace gloves, cursed mirrors, black candles, all that. But this building? This is home. Grandma made it a sanctuary. I made it... secure."

Interviewer: "Final question. What’s your message to anyone thinking about skipping rent next month?"

Juliet: She leans in close. Her voice is soft, almost sweet, but her eyes stay cold. "Sleep with one eye open."
