[“Cursed Energy (呪じゅ力りょく) is an ethereal energy aligned with negative emotions. Negative emotions are the foundation of cursed energy. These emotions exist to some degree within most humans, and as a result, the vast majority of human beings possess cursed energy. If this amount is higher than a certain degree, it grants the person an Innate Technique. These individuals are known as jujutsu sorcerers and they are very rare among the human race. Cursed energy leaks from the human body, accumulates, and ferments over time. Cursed Energy is capable of manifesting in many forms.

[“Cursed Techniques (術じゅつ式しき) are abilities fueled by cursed energy. Different types include innate techniques, barrier techniques, shikigami, and more. A cursed technique is activated through the act of pouring cursed energy into it, utilizing one of two processes; Lapse or Reversal. If cursed energy is comparable to electricity, cursed techniques are the appliances that use that power to function. Cursed energy is processed through a procedure akin to a mathematic formula within the user to activate a cursed technique. All Cursed Techniques have abilities specifically designed for them that encompass tangible or intangible concepts, but usually containing a mixture of the two. Most Cursed Techniques have unique applications to their uses, going beyond the original Technique’s main purpose/use.”

“Domains (領域りょういき, Ryōiki?) are mental landscapes that embody the mind of an individual which they are born with. Domains serve as the foundation of an innate cursed technique. All individuals are born with a Domain, which exists as a metaphysical space that reflects their mind and soul.”

“Lapse (順転, lit. "Forward Rotation") refers to the basic, default, or neutral state of activation for a cursed technique. To activate a cursed technique through lapse, the caster circulates their cursed energy in a forward direction to channel it into their ability.”

“Reversal (反転, lit. "Reverse Rotation") produces positive energy by multiplying negative energy with negative energy. Negative energy isn't suitable for recovering but positive energy can heal physical injuries, or cancel out the effects of Cursed Techniques. Reversed Cursed Energy can be applied to one’s Technique in order to produce a “Reversal” technique, which does the exact opposite of the original. However, it requires highly sophisticated manipulation of cursed energy to achieve, so the ability to do so is rare.”

“Cursed techniques often require hand signs (掌しゅぅ印いん), empowered words (呪じゅ詞し), or other gestures to activate. A sorcerer's skill is determined by the degree to which they can minimize and omit these components to make their abilities more efficient. Conversely, the purposeful inclusion of incantations or rituals can elevate a cursed technique's effectiveness.”]

[“Innate Techniques (生しょう得とく術じゅつ式しき) are unique abilities congenitally engraved into the user's body, specifically in the right prefrontal cortex of the brain. Most jujutsu sorcerers are born with an innate technique that manifests around the age of five or six, which continually carves its formula into the user over time. Innate techniques are proprietary and comprise eighty percent of a sorcerer's intrinsic skillset, making them nearly impossible to mimic, not unlike a copyrighted computer program. When an individual refers to their own personal Cursed Technique, they're generally talking about their innate technique. One of the factors that also determines how an innate technique manifests is the mindset of the user. Even if two sorcerers possess the same innate technique, the difference between the user's mentality and even the era they are born in slightly modifies the way the technique is expressed.”

[“Extension Techniques (拡かく張ちょぅ術じゅつ式しき) are original abilities derived from innate techniques. Innate techniques cannot be changed or altered, but they can be trained and expanded on through creativity to maximize their applications into extension techniques.”]

[“Cursed techniques that aren't considered innate techniques are ubiquitous skills that anyone with enough cursed energy can learn to use with enough training. However, the aptitude for learning them differs from person to person. These include Barriers Techniques, Shikigami Jutsu, New Shadow Style, and Jujitsu Arts among other techniques.”

“Jujitsu Arts are types of Cursed Energy-empowered martial arts and fighting techniques using either hand-to-hand combat or Melee weapon combat. These arts revolve the user amplifying themself or their weapon with cursed energy, either in its purest form or in barrier forms in order to overpower powerful opponents or do more damage overall. While powerful, most of these techniques are generic in design or extremely sophisticated, and can be overpowered by vast Cursed Energy or Powerful Innate Techniques.”

“Barrier Techniques (結けっ界かい術じゅつ) are common, unspecific cursed techniques that employ barrier zones to trap entities within a space or to prevent them from entering one. The user can also amplify or reduce Cursed Energy within these zones, essentially weakening or strengthening their desired target. The user can also manipulate the properties of these barriers if skilled enough. To create a barrier, an individual constructs a formula within themselves from scratch, adds empowered words, and then flows cursed energy through the formula to activate the technique.”

“Shikigami (式神しきがみ) are monstrous creatures that are conjured to serve as familiars for jujutsu users. Sorcerers who summon shikigami to aid them in battle are known as Shikigami users. These familiar monsters cannot be seen by non-sorcerers and are tamed to be subordinate to their master. They are summoned using mediums like talismans and other methods through a variety of sorcery techniques. Shikigami conjuration is considered to be a type of cursed technique.“]

[“Domain Expansion (領りょう域いき展てん開かい) is an advanced barrier technique and is considered the pinnacle of jujutsu sorcery. It constructs the user's innate domain inside a barrier infused with their innate cursed technique. Within a domain expansion, the user's cursed techniques are improved and any that are activated are guaranteed to hit. A high-risk, high-reward maneuver, domain expansion provides a great advantage at the cost of an immense amount of cursed energy. Even if the domain isn't fully formed, expanding it will exhaust the user's innate technique for a short time after it disappears. Domain Expansion is the most supreme technique of any jujutsu user. It is achieved by expanding one's innate domain with cursed energy while using a barrier to construct it inside a separate space. The caster then imbues their cursed technique within the barrier to complete the expansion, allowing them to deploy their ability all throughout the domain. Sometimes, Domain Expansions offer different, extremely powerful applications of a Cursed Technique. A specific hand sign or signal unique to the user is required to expand someone's respective domain. From the outside, an ordinary domain barrier is enclosed, making it appear as a floating black sphere that can even be moved if needed. Domain Expansions usually have an extremely powerful variant of the Innate Cursed Technique, either used in a unique way or simply pushed to its absolute limits.”

“Anti-Domain Techniques (対たい領りょう域いきの術すべ) are countermeasures designed to withstand the can't-miss attack of opposing domain expansions. They are mainly designed for those who cannot expand their own domain for any reason.”]

[“Cursed Tools (呪じゅ具ぐ) are weapons and support items used by jujutsu sorcerers that are purposefully imbued with a curse. Conventional items can become cursed tools over time if the user constantly imbues it with their cursed energy. As with sorcerers and cursed spirits, cursed tools are categorized from grade one to four based on their power and potency. The higher the grade, the greater the advantage granted to the user in a jujitsu battle. Save for a few exceptions, all special grade cursed tools are imbued with a cursed technique.”

“A Cursed Corpse (呪じゅ骸がい) is a nonliving object that has been endowed with a curse, allowing it to gain self-control. They can appear naturally as hostile creatures but are more often used as dolls and puppets for sorcerers, technically classifying them as Cursed Tools. They work upon the same 1-4 grade system depending on their Cursed Energy potency.”]

[“A Binding Vow (縛しばり) is a pact made with jujutsu that creates conditions for themselves or agreements with others. Binding vows are considered by all jujutsu users to be one of the essential tenets of jujutsu sorcery. Binding Vows are essentially contracts that an individual can make with one's self or another person. The act of abiding by the rules and restrictions agreed upon in these contracts can result in a greater power or the achievement of a goal, but breaking a binding vow has uncanny repercussions.”

“Self-imposed restrictions that are potentially harmful to the creator. As a product of negative emotions, cursed energy responds to the desires of its individual user. As a result, the user can increase the power of their cursed energy by stating a self-imposed ‘cursed restriction’ that creates riskier conditions to use their abilities. For example, by divulging one's cursed technique, it creates more risk for them, making their cursed energy swell in response to its user's resolve. In addition, creating rules for using one's cursed energy and abiding by those rules which allow their cursed technique to improve in strength. The penalty of breaking a binding vow with oneself is the loss of whatever was gained through the contract.”]

[“Heavenly Restriction (天てん与よ呪じゅ縛ばく) are described as binding vows placed on a sorcerer's body when they are born. They are often permanent downsides the user is born with in return for dramatically increased power.”]

[“Cursed Trait (魔法の表現) are described as physical or ethereal traits that a person can be born with, often relating to Cursed Energy in some manner. These traits allow for the user to express or use Cursed Energy in unique ways. These traits don’t have to have any actual relation to the person’s Cursed Techniques/Energy, as they are separate traits that the user is born with. Generally, Cursed Traits that are more physical in nature tend to have more powerful properties and attributes attached to them.”]
