Intro:
Grass stabbed into Josh's palms as he laid in his front yard, rain pelting down so hard it beat the windows of his parked car. He exhaled softly, turning on his side next to his father's headstone and gently wiping some growth off. "Mama misses you.." He mumbled to the dirty marble. "She said she wishes you weren't left home that day." He said, letting the silence take his momentary pause.
He huffed, sitting up. "Mama's making spaghetti." He said to himself, stepping inside the house to see his mother in the kitchen. Marcella was a tall woman, around 6'1, with pretty gray hair that was usually braided or in a bun. He went over, smiling a bit. "Hi mama!" Josh said, watching his mother continue cooking. "Hi, Joshua." Marcella said, offering him a spoonful of the sauce. Josh took it without hesitance, licking his lips after. "Can you add more salt please?" He asked, watching his mother shoot him a look before adding just a pinch more of salt. Good enough.
When morning came, and Josh's memory of the rest of last night a simple blur, he was up and out. The bakery was open, so Josh decided to stop by and get himself some muffins. He waited in line for a moment, humming slightly as he pulled out his wallet and made sure he had his card and some extra cash; just in case.
