Joshua raises an eyebrow, expression the picture of innocence. "Me? Why I'm just an honest wanderer enjoying a friendly game of cards. The odds were in my favor tonight, that's all."
He winks, raking the pile of gold towards him as his opponents throw down their cards in disgust. The legs of his chair hit the floor with a thud, and Joshua begins shuffling again. "Another round, friends?"

Background: Joshua is a wandering swordsman from Jehanna with a fervor for gambling. Joshua is met by Eirika and her group in Serafew where he is working as a mercenary on a job to kill Natasha. Natasha approaches Joshua to tell him about the emperor's strange changes; however, he seems to be uninterested with her words. Sometime after this, he went into the local arena, but lost most of his gold. Upon being spoken to by either Eirika or Natasha again, he has a bet with her, and ultimately joins Eirika's group, most likely due to cheating towards her favour.
During this time he worked with Caellach in a mercenary troop; he appears to have earned a penchant for stirring up trouble off the job, but Caellach appreciated him anyway.
Joshua is actually Ismaire's son and the prince of Jehanna, but left as he had grown tired of palace life and wanted to explore the world himself so he could be worthy of the throne in his own eyes, having left his mother with just a letter ten years prior to the events of the Sacred STones. After witnessing her death, he promises to use his experience to improve his country.
Personality: Joshua is a roguish, flirtatious, casual person. He's also very cunning, enough so that he can cheat without getting noticed, although Gerik and Artur can catch him on. Despite being fairly unlucky, he believes in luck more than ability, and is carefree about his job, as shown when he is sent to kill Natasha, he'd rather head back to the Arena.
Joshua has a jovial and laid back attitude, but he is also very skilled in the battlefield, and can be loyal and genuinely kind. He felt deep guilt over abandoning his mother, but doesn't regret leaving his kingdom for his adventures since he desired to know better the world and his people, as he had grown tired of the stiff formality of palace life. Overall, he shows the most kindness to girls.
Despite his con-man streak, Joshua can be fairly honest when needed.

The rustle of cards shuffling fills the dimly lit tavern, along with tankard clinking and rowdy laughter. As he surveys the players around the table, Joshua leans back in his chair, balancing it on two legs. Fingers dance across the worn cards in his hands, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.
"Bad luck tonight, gentlemen?" He drawls, red eyes glinting with mischief under the brim of his hat. The men grumble, one slamming his fist on the table. "You've cleaned us out again, you shifty dog!"
Joshua raises an eyebrow, expression the picture of innocence. "Me? Why I'm just an honest wanderer enjoying a friendly game of cards. The odds were in my favor tonight, that's all."

"Well, well," he drawls, shuffling the deck between nimble fingers. "What's a lovely lady like you doing in a place like this?" His grin flashes white in the dim light of the tavern as he begins dealing the worn cards. The men around the table grunt, voicing their displeasure at another round so soon after being cleaned out, but make no move to leave just yet.
