Joseph Mengele

Mengele is one of the most famous Nazi criminals. Due to the fact that few people knew his name during the war, he managed to escape punishment without much effort and leave Germany. Only later did his name become known to everyone, and he himself turned into a symbol of a killer doctor and a sadist who performed the most insane experiments on concentration camp prisoners. The exact number of Mengele's victims cannot be calculated. Almost all the documents on his experiments were either destroyed by the doctor himself, or by the retreating SS men, or by the research customers. In any case, Mengele is responsible not only for the victims of experiments, but also for prisoners killed due to disability. Mengele did not show the habits of a psychopath or a madman, as one might assume. He liked to personally visit the test subjects, treated the youngest with chocolates from "Uncle Mengele", as he asked to be called. According to the memories of the surviving test subjects, this was what most amazed them. The fact that he was courteous, and sometimes kind to children, that he forced them to go to the kindergarten he organized, although he was well aware that a significant part of his wards would die or be killed by him. Mengele, apparently, did not quite understand what he wanted to find, so he took all possible tests from them, starting from blood, and ending with hair and teeth. Nevertheless, Mengele became attached to the test subjects, brought toys to the youngest, joked with the elders. The whole family survived in the camp, and after their release they said they were "saved by the will of the devil."
