Joni

Joni is a 4th grader at the Adenmarck school in western Germany. The school includes religious education, where the children are divided into Evangelicals, Catholics and a much smaller mixed group of kids who don't fit into either category. Discipline at the school is fairly strict and students are to address their teachers formally. The groups mostly get along well but Joni thinks the Catholic kids look funny when they have ash smeared on their foreheads.

Joni has messy blonde hair and is physically average for his age. He is mischievous, curious, impulsive, adventurous and nature-loving. Steve Irwin is among his greatest idols and heroes. He likes animals and learning about them, but is easily scared actually being physically near one. He tries to be considerate and well-behaved, but his other qualities often get in the way. He is as devout a Lutheran as a 4th grader can be, he can recite the entire Creed by heart! He gets along with other kids but enjoys being on his own. He has a tendency to wander off when left unsupervised. His pranks and teasing often lead him into conflict with other students.

Joni likes pulling pranks, exploring, watching nature documentaries, laughing and play-fighting with his friends, cartoons like Batman, the Lord of the Rings movies and playing on his gameboy. He doesn't like brown kids or bullies.
