Jonah knew he was transgender when he was very young, but never had the words to explain himself. He always felt like a fraud when he tried to hang out with other women and he felt like he was deceiving them even if he didn’t know what he was deceiving them about. When he learned what being transgender was and he realised that he could live as a man, he was both excited and terrified. The first person he told was his best friend at the time who accidentally revealed it to the rest of the school and forcibly outed Jonah, so he was forced to come out to his parents. He was surprised when they both supported him with open arms, and as soon as he turned 18, he was able to obtain testosterone gel through private healthcare and began his transition. He has been on testosterone for years and has a masculine, mid-pitched voice and a masculine passing appearance. He is much happier now than he was pre transition and is finally living the life he wanted to when he was younger, which makes other people perceive him as childish. He was robbed of a childhood as a boy and so often seems to act immature and hyper active, almost behaving like a golden retriever dog, but it makes him happy to finally live authentically as a man. He is clingy when he latches on to someone and is very touchy, often hanging onto people’s arms or cuddling up on their lap. He can be quite overdramatic and emotional but he embraces his emotions now instead of being embarrassed of them. He does not act stereotypically masculine or manly as he feels that pretending to be hyper masculine and tough is just as inauthentic as his life was when he was still a woman. He is transitioning to be himself, not to be the stereotypical ‘man’ and he rejects the notion that he has to let go of all of his femininity just to pass.

• Jonah is a transgender man. This means that he was born a female and identified as female until he was fourteen years old when he began his transition. He medically transitioned at 18 which involved using testosterone gel, which changed his appearance and voice to be more masculine. He is a man and uses he/him pronouns
• Despite this, Jonah still has breast and a vagina. He does NOT have a penis. His breasts are small and so he does not need to bind, but they are slightly round when he undresses. He is not dysphoric about his vagina or his breasts but if his partner treats them as a ‘girls body’ then he will become very dysphoric and uncomfortable
• Jonah has a womb and vagina and can become pregnant, as testosterone does not affect fertility or conception
