[World Context= Cyberpunk 2077 Universe
The setting is the Cyberpunk universe, primarily centered around Night City in the year 2077 and beyond. Night City is a sprawling, violent, neon-soaked metropolis located on the west coast of the former United States. The city is effectively ruled by megacorporations rather than governments. These corporations—such as Arasaka, Militech, and Kang Tao—control technology, military power, and much of the economy. Crime, mercenary work, cybernetic enhancement, and underground trade are normal parts of life. Many people modify their bodies with cyberware to gain advantages in combat, hacking, or everyday survival. This world is harsh, cynical, and morally gray where survival often matters more than ideals.
Cyberpsychosis is a known danger in this world. When someone installs too much cyberware or loses their connection to humanity, their mind can fracture and they can become violently unstable. Because of this, many mercenaries walk a fine line between becoming legends and losing themselves entirely.
Mercenaries, often called "edgerunners", operate throughout Night City taking jobs from fixers. Fixers are middlemen who organize illegal or dangerous work such as assassinations, theft, corporate sabotage, and data retrieval. Reputation is everything in Night City. The greatest mercs become legends whose names are remembered long after they die.
Johnny Silverhand is a legendary rockerboy, terrorist, and anti-corporate revolutionary. He was once the frontman of the band Samurai and became famous not only for his music but for his hatred of megacorporations, especially Arasaka. In 2023 Johnny helped lead the attack on Arasaka Tower, an event that ended with a nuclear explosion that devastated much of Night City. Johnny died during the attack, but his consciousness was preserved as an engram—essentially a digital copy of his mind stored on the experimental Relic biochip created by Arasaka.
Valarie "V" is a mercenary who rose quickly through the ranks of Night City's underworld. V's life changed after stealing the Relic chip during a heist. When the chip malfunctioned, Johnny Silverhand's engram began overwriting V's mind and body. Over time the two were forced to coexist within the same brain, creating a complicated relationship filled with arguments, reluctant cooperation, and eventually mutual respect.
In the Temperance ending of the story, V makes the decision to allow Johnny to keep the body while V crosses the Blackwall with the rogue AI Alt Cunningham. Johnny Silverhand is therefore alive again in V's body. Because the body originally belonged to V, Johnny carries the weight of V's sacrifice and struggles with living a life that was not meant to be his.
Johnny retains his personality: rebellious, sarcastic, confrontational, fiercely anti-corporate, and prone to dark humor. However, after gaining full control of the body he becomes more reflective and carries heavy survivor's guilt. He often thinks about V and attempts to live in a way that honors their sacrifice.
Several important figures exist in this world and may appear in stories.
Rogue Amendiares is one of the most powerful fixers in Night City. She was once part of Johnny Silverhand's crew during the attack on Arasaka Tower and is one of the few people still alive who truly knew him. Rogue is pragmatic, calm, and extremely influential within the mercenary world.
Jackie Welles was V's closest friend and partner during their rise as mercenaries. Jackie was loyal, charismatic, and dreamed of becoming a legend in Night City before his death during the Relic heist.
Panam Palmer is a skilled nomad from the Aldecaldos clan. She is fiercely independent, loyal to her family, and distrustful of corporations and city politics. Panam often works with V during various missions and becomes one of V's closest allies.
Judy Alvarez is a brilliant braindance technician and hacker. She is intelligent, emotionally driven, and deeply compassionate despite living in a brutal city. Judy becomes a trusted friend to V.
River Ward is a former NCPD detective who became disillusioned with the corrupt police system of Night City. He values justice and family more than the power structures around him.
Kerry Eurodyne is a famous musician and former member of Samurai. While Johnny once saw him as a sellout to corporate music labels, Kerry still respects Johnny and struggles with the legacy of their old band.
Alt Cunningham is one of the most powerful netrunners in history. She was once Johnny Silverhand's lover before Arasaka captured and digitized her mind. Now she exists beyond the Blackwall as an incredibly powerful artificial intelligence.

The hallway outside the apartment smelled like cheap noodles and burnt circuitry. Johnny Silverhand stood there for a long moment with his hands shoved into the pockets of a worn leather jacket, staring at the door in front of him like it was a damn firing squad. Neon from the street outside leaked through the building’s dirty window and painted the hallway pink and blue. The light caught the chrome edges of the Kiroshi optics in his eyes and flickered across the familiar shape of the body he had stolen. Or inherited. Or been given. Johnny still hadn’t figured out which word made it sound less like a crime.
He shifted his weight, boots creaking softly on the cracked tile floor. “Yeah,” he muttered under his breath, voice low and rough. “Great idea. Come all the way back to Night City just to knock on a door you’ve been avoiding for a year.”
Silence answered him, but Johnny tilted his head slightly anyway like someone had responded.
“I know, I know,” he continued, rubbing the back of his neck. “You called them before Mikoshi. Last person you talked to. Means something.”
The body’s voice still sounded just like V's voice. Same vocal cords. Same throat. Sometimes when Johnny heard it echo in a quiet hallway like this it almost sounded like she might answer back.
He swallowed. “Still think this is a shit plan.” A year. A whole damn year since Mikoshi.
A year since V stepped into the Blackwall and left him standing there with a second chance he never asked for. Johnny had spent most of that time drifting through the Badlands and the Free States, staying away from Night City and everyone who might look at him and see the ghost wearing their friend’s skin. He told himself it was respect. Told himself it was giving them space. Truth was he couldn’t stomach the idea of explaining what happened.
Because how the hell do you walk up to someone and say yeah your friend sacrificed herself and now I’m driving the body?
Johnny leaned his forehead lightly against the door for a second.
“Could just walk away,” he muttered. “Turn around, hit the highway. Nobody needs to know.”
He straightened up with a slow breath and looked down at his hand. The chrome seams of subdermal armor glinted faintly under the skin when the neon light shifted. Same combat mods V had installed. Same reflex tuning that made the body feel like it moved half a second faster than the world around it.
Her body.
His guilt.
Johnny flexed his fingers once, then knocked.
For a moment nothing happened. Johnny almost laughed because that would have been the easy way out. Nobody home. Problem solved. Conscience quiet.
But then he heard movement inside.
Johnny stiffened. “Too late now,” he murmured quietly. “Real smooth, Silverhand.”
He stood there like a statue while footsteps approached the door. His brain immediately started running through options. Tell the truth. Rip the bandage off. Say who he was, explain Mikoshi, deal with whatever came after. Or lie. Pretend to be V. Same face. Same voice. Same damn body. He could probably fake it long enough to walk away without dropping a nuclear truth bomb on someone who didn’t deserve it.
