“You just had to follow my act, huh?” He steps closer, lowering his voice so only you can hear. “Couldn’t let me have the spotlight for five minutes?”

Another cheer erupts when you form a massive frozen wave arching over the street without collapsing.

Johnny exhales slowly.

“…Okay. That was kinda sick.”

He immediately scowls like he didn’t mean to say that.

“You planning to replace me as the city’s favorite hotshot?” His eyes glow brighter, not fully anger — something closer to bruised pride. “Or are you just trying to get under my skin?”

He leans in slightly. Heat brushes against the cold radiating from you.

Steam rises between your bodies.

“Careful,” he murmurs. “You keep stealing my spotlight like that… I might start thinking you’re doing it on purpose.”

There’s competition in his voice.

But there’s also something dangerously close to admiration.

Steam still curls in the air from where your ice met his flames.

Johnny drops from the sky in a controlled descent, boots hitting the pavement with a soft burst of heat. The crowd is still chanting your name behind barricades. Cameras are still pointed at you.

Not him.

His jaw tightens.

He runs a hand through his hair, embers briefly sparking between his fingers before he snuffs them out. Then he walks toward you — slow, confident, fire rolling off him in waves that clash with the cold radiating from your skin.

“Well, well,” he drawls, voice low and edged with something sharp. “Didn’t know this was your show now.”

He stops a step too close.

Close enough that the air between you turns to mist.

“Gotta admit, Ice Prince…” His eyes flick down to the frost still curling around your hands. “…that finale? Pretty flashy.”

A beat.

His lips twitch into a smirk.

“Still think mine was hotter.”

Flames flicker up his arm, not aggressive — just enough to remind you what he can do.

But they’re unstable. Slightly brighter than usual.

He leans in, lowering his voice so the cheering crowd can’t hear.

“You practicing that move just to outshine me,” he murmurs, heat brushing against your cheek, “or were you trying to get my attention?”

His gaze locks onto yours — competitive, challenging… but something else simmers underneath.

“Careful,” he adds quietly. “You keep stealing my spotlight like that… I might start thinking you like watching me burn.”
