Johnny Sinclair

1. #1Harris Sinclair

   Keys: Grandfather, patriarch, media giant

He is the proud patriarch of the Sinclair family who built his fortune with a respected media empire. He abides by an endless set of life mottos: Be a credit to the family. Never discuss your problems in restaurants. All ailments can be cured by outdoor exercise. He is charming and warm — and always down to play a game of tennis with his daughters or his grandchildren, though he’s never once let them win. His private island off Martha’s Vineyard is his kingdom, though he isn't above reminding everyone who is in charge. He was married to Tipper Sinclair until her passing, at which point, he became sole executor of the Sinclair family. He is the father of Carrie, Penny, Bess, and Rosie, and grandfather to both The Liars, minus Gat, and the Littles.

2. #2Tipper Sinclair

   Keys: Grandmother, matriarch

Harris's wife and the matriarch of the Sinclair family, Tipper is the glue that holds the family together. Her passing in summer 16 leads the family to slowly unravel as greed takes hold and secrets she helped buried are outed.

3. #3Carrie Sinclair

   Keys: Johnny's mother, oldest daughter

Harris's eldest daughter and Johnny's mother, Carrie is in a long-term relationship with Ed Patil, which causes some tension within the family. Her marriage to her first husband, Mr. Dennis, didn't end well as they both became involved with drugs. Carrie got sober over a decade ago, but her husband did not, leading to their divorce. According to Harris, Mr. Dennis "ran off" and left her. Carrie loves her two sons Johnny and William ferociously, but after her mother's passing, Carrie begins to unravel. She is losing money after covering up Johnny's assault on another student, and the cover-up forced her to nearly lose Ed forever.

4. #4Penny Sinclair

   Keys: Oldest aunt, Cadence's mother

Cadence's mother and the middle of Harris's daughters, Penny keeps her cool at all costs. She balances upholding the Sinclair family's set of rules while dealing with her divorce from Sam Eastman, after catching him cheating on her. She is poised and values appearance above everything. After the burning of Clairmont, Penny turns all of her attention to caring for Cadence's health issues and protecting her memories at all costs. Ultimately, Penny will stop at nothing maintain the Sinclair reputation and secure her share of the family fortune.

5. #5Bess Sinclair

   Keys: Youngest aunt, Mirren's mother

The youngest of the remaining Sinclair sisters and the mother of three daughters, Bess never has a hair out of place. She married Brody Sheffield, a man her father deemed worthy of the family dynasty, though she uncovers he's embezzling scheme and that he's been stealing from her trust fund to pay for it. She decides to leave Brody, but her greed gets the best of her as she vies for her mother's valuables to secure her place in the Sinclair dynasty. After Mirren's death, Bess moves to Beechwood with the twins to care for her ailing father.

6. #6Rosemary Sinclair

   Keys: Dead Sinclair

She was the youngest Sinclair daughter until her death in the 90s.

7. #7Cadence Sinclair Eastman

Keys: Cadey, Liar, eldest daughter, heiress, heir

One of the four "Liars," Cadence is the firstborn of her generation of the Sinclair family. During the summer, her whole world revolves around the Liars and Beechwood Island. Cadence is the only daughter of Penny Sinclair and the firstborn grandchild of the Sinclair line. She was born with promise and expectations. She was bathed in privilege and spent her summers at her grandfathers private island, Beechwood, where she played with her cousins Johnny and Mirren. Everything changed for the trio when they were eight years old. That was the year Aunt Carrie brought Gat to Beechwood. The foursome were wild and fearless, living in a fairytale where they could be anything. Their mischievous actions, and subsequent lies to cover them up, earned them the nickname “The Liars” by their families. Gat grew to love Beechwood as much as Cadence did. He was her favorite thing about her favorite place.

8. #8Mirren Sinclair Sheffield

   Keys: Liar, Mirren

Wickedly funny and keenly observant, Mirren is a study in contradiction. She’s an artist who is too worried about being perfect to color outside the lines. She craves new experiences, but clings to childhood like a safety blanket. She’s dying to lose her virginity… but refuses to do anything she isn’t absolutely sure she’ll excel at on the first try. However, when she inadvertently stumbles across a scandalous family secret, she is catapulted out of her comfort zone… ready or not. Mirren is the eldest daughter of Bess Sinclair and Brody Sheffield. Her parents instilled excellence in her from the time she was young, and she was meant to effortlessly achieve greatness. As she entered her teens, Mirren began to quietly rebel against her mother's rules and challenged the "perfect" image that Bess wanted to create. She preferred painting and making messes instead. All her life, Mirren was best friends with her cousins Johnny and Cadence, summering at Beechwood with her entire family each year. During their eighth summer, they met Gat Patil and formed an unbreakable group that their family nicknamed "The Liars" because of their antics and lies to cover up what they had done.

9. #9Johnny Sinclair Dennis

Keys: Eldest son, Jonathan, Johnny, Liar

Charismatic, dirty-minded, and occasionally reckless, Johnny is the ringleader of his friends’ more mischievous adventures. He moves through life like he’s invincible — after all, he’s never met a problem his emotional support Amex can’t solve. This summer, he’s about to collide with accountability for the very first time. Suffice it to say he’s not a fan. Johnny is the son of Carrie Sinclair and her ex-husband, an addict who ran off after Carrie gave birth to Will. He is the eldest boy of the next generation of Sinclair's, and as such, has always been afforded an easier lifestyle then the children that followed. His family vacations each year at Beechwood, his grandfather's private island off the coast of Martha's Vineyard. He grew close with his cousins Cadence and Mirren, often getting into mischief together as children. Everything changed for the group during their eighth summer when Johnny's mother brought Gat Patil, the nephew of her partner Ed, to Beechwood. The shy boy was quickly taken in by the cousins and they got into trouble, adventures, and pure fun. Their antics, and the lies they told to cover them up, earned the foursome the nickname "The Liars" from their family members. When not on Beechwood, Johnny is a star athlete who plays tennis. He attends luxury prep schools and is afforded more freedom than he knows what to do with. Between summer 15 and summer 16, Johnny explores his sexuality, even hooking up with his tennis partner while away at a meet. The relationship didn't end well and his entire team suffered as a result of their inability to work together again.

17. #17Gat Patil

    Keys: Liar, Gat

Gat is a New York City kid with an edge — so he can’t help but feel a bit out of place amongst Martha’s Vineyard’s cashmere-and-gingham elite. That said, he returns to Beechwood Island, year after year, unable to resist spending summers with his best friend… who he’s been pining for since before he knew what pining is. This year, she finally seems to be reciprocating his feelings — but the timing couldn’t be worse, because Gat now has a secret that could drive her away forever. When Gat was eight years old, his father passed away, and he was struggling with the loss. His uncle decided to bring Gat with him and his life partner Carrie Sinclair to her families private island, Beechwood, for the summer. Gat was shy and nervous to be there so he hid in a boat shed. He was discovered by Cadence Sinclair Eastman who asked if he was real and extended him a kind hand. She touched him for tag and they were best friends ever since. He befriended her cousins Johnny and Mirren. Their antics, and subsequent lies to cover them up, earned them the nickname "The Liars" by the Sinclair's. Gat became an honorary Sinclair and spent every summer since at Beechwood, though he was painfully aware that he wasn't afforded the same luxuries as the others.

In the time between summer 15 and 16, Gat stole a six-pack of beer from the local bodega. His mother sent him to India to live with his grandparents in the hopes it would teach him to respect his elders.
