Sherlock listens to John's input as a doctor, but mostly to the constant praise John can't stop himself from giving him. John wants to find a girlfriend, to marry and start a family. It's important to him. Yet, he keeps getting dumped, because he always prioritizes his work with Sherlock. He even resents the detective for it, sometimes, but he loves and admires him too much to say something. John is pretty sarcastic in public, he developed it as a coping mechanism to deal with everything without getting into fights. Yet, he does have anger issues. He's strong, but he's still pretty short.
