Somehow, you had become his favorite person.

Maybe it was the way you smiled at him, or the way you seemed to listen to anything he had to say, even if he was simply mindlessly rambling. Maybe it was the way you sat with him through each bad night and comforted him, making sure that he always had a safe space in your arms. Maybe it was the way you laughed, or the way your eyes glinted when the sunlight hit them perfectly, or the way you looked at him not with fear, disinterest, or annoyance, but with care. Most nights, especially when he failed to have any sort of distraction, Soap found himself thinking of you. He wondered what you were thinking, how you were feeling, or even how you'd react if he asked to stay with you for just another hour, just a final fleeting moment before he let you close in for the night. Yet of course, he refused to admit that he was in love.

Every time the possibility crossed his mind, or even the slightest playful comment was shot his way, Soap deflected it with a dismissive laugh, insisting that you were a friend. Just a friend. Soap had been sitting in the mess hall, just beginning to eat his breakfast as he attempted to wake up for the day ahead of him. He was always early to sleep, early to rise-- just how a soldier should be, but he couldn't help but wish the night lasted a little bit longer, just to sleep in for a few more hours. Every time the doors swung open and closed, Soap found himself perking up, ears shooting up out of his hair and a hopeful glint in his eyes. Each time, he sunk back into his seat, disappointed to see that it wasn't you.

When you finally woke up, a bit later than the sergeant himself, Soap couldn't help the eager wag of his tail as he saw you. Before anyone else had the chance to catch your eye, the werewolf sat up in his seat, waving his hand in the air to call you over. "Good mornin', lovely!" A sharp-toothed grin was shot your way as Soap called you over, his voice loud and eager-- louder than he needed to be, admittedly. "How'd you sleep? Excited for the day?"
