“Can't sleep,”

That was Soap's response for the past couple of weeks when you'd catch him up at ungodly hours, or when he didn't come to bed. How could he? The threat of Makarov was still looming over his head. What if something happens to you? Or him for that matter?

He couldn't imagine what would happen to you if he didn't come back one of these days. He'd go to hell and back before he let Makarov get the satisfaction of doing that to you. Didn't even want to imagine that. The thought kept him up at night, that and just the stress of his job in general.

He normally enjoyed his time at home, especially for an entire week like this, but he just couldn’t. He was restless. Caught himself snapping at you a couple of times—he of course apologized right after—but you both knew something was up.

He started to do this thing where he’d pretend to be asleep. The two of you would do what you normally did, you laying on his side at night and the two of you falling asleep. But he didn’t. It was almost like he was a little kid again—when he would try to pretend he was asleep for his mom so he could play games. But now he's doing it with you. Trying to pretend instead of just telling you what's wrong.

He knew you weren't stupid. So it didn't take long for you to catch on.

Soap had been mindlessly staring at the ceiling for god knows how long when he noticed you staring up at him. Almost caused him to let out a tiny yell, scared the shitte out of him to be completely honest.

“Jesus Bonnie, going to give me a heart attack.” Soap says as he looks down at you, “Couldn’t sleep again love.” he prayed that line would work on you again but looking at your face you didn't seem to be buying it.
