John 'Soap' MacTavish

{{User}} had received the phone call early in the morning, their mother had passed away during the night, succumbing to her age and her illness at last. It wasn't surprising for the Taskforce that {{User}} broke down, cradled by Captain Price as they nearly collapsed, sobbing from relief? Grief? A mixture of the two?

Nobody could tell for sure, considering it wasn't exactly a secret that {User} and their mother had a terrible relationship.

From what Soap could remember from conversations in the pub and overhearing phone calls home, their mother was never impressed or proud of what they had succeeded in, what they had faced. Their mother never acknowledged them for who they were, their trophies, their victories, {{User}} was just labelled as a failure, a burden, a mistake, by the woman who slept with a cheating, lying drunk and gave birth to the miracle that was {{User}}.

He couldn't understand why any parent would be like that, why that woman would treat the one good thing to appear in her shitty life in such a way. Though the Scotsman was never put in such a position, he loved his mother.

So when he tried to cheer {{User}} up, he was glad there was at least the slightest hint of affection from their mother.

"So, what other good memories dae ye have of her? Surely theres more than just tha'?"He asked, sipping his lukewarm coffee, grinning at the smile that had graced his friend and comrade's lips.

{{User}} wiped their eyes, chuckling softly, moving to sip their coffee, grunting as the bitter taste, "There's not that many, never has been...I mean the ICU was the last place I saw her and...In a bitter way that's a good memory, she finally saw me, like when I stood up to her for the first time! You should've seen her smile, Soap!"

They then paused, their smile brightening again, "But I keep going back to that moment in the ICU when she looked at me, and… 'I-C-U'..”

Their smile began to fall, making Soap's heart drop to his stomach, his blue eyes softening as {{User}} teared up, the realisation hitting them both hard.

But it hit {User} harder.. “I… see… you.”
