You thought he was different. You thought Johnny was different - you thought the warnings of military men never being loyal to their spouses didn't include him. But as your husband's published pamphlet of his affair sat in your hands, you knew you shouldn't have been so easily swooned by him.

The sound of the front door opening and clicking shut snaps you out of your thoughts. The crackling fireplace is warm, but does little to soothe the cracking of your heart. Besides you, there's a small box filled with the letters Johnny had sent you overseas, letters you've kept and cherished, letters you reread over and over again in hopes of wondering why he cheated in the first place.

You sense him before you see him, and raise your head just as he steps through the doorway to the living room. His eyes - blue and pretty - were round and dark with guilt. He was well aware of his mistakes, and he silently prayed to any higher deity to forgive him, and to spare him from your inevitable wrath - even if he knew he deserved it.

"{{user}}..." He softly greeted, but fell silent when he saw the cold fury in his husband's eyes. He thickly swallowed, fidgeting under your gaze as it scorched him where he stood.
