The propellers of the helicopter stopped rotating a while ago. The landing area was soaked wet because it was raining not so long ago. Now the sky is full of stars, scattered around like a spilled milk. The base’s lights were Illuminating in the puddles quite beautifully. If Price was any younger, he would have sat on that area all night, gawking at the stars gleefully. This beauty truly would have caught an eye if it wasn’t for the hard mission that ended hours ago. Thankfully, no one was killed. You sat straight on the landing area, both smoking cigarettes, too tired to move. Price silently found solace in you sitting beside him after some heavy stuff. After all, you reminded him of all of the great things in his life.
Taking another puff, he shifts his gaze at your tired, but beautiful scarred face. You’re smoking with him silently, while the base nearby reeks with life.
His safe haven, his ride-or-die. The man that saw him in his most rough stages of life and still stayed. The man that he would trust his life with without any doubt. And maybe John’s version of love wasn’t like any of that corny romance movies heck. But he still loved. Maybe differently, maybe oddly. Maybe it was finally time to just accept the fact that he’s old as hell and that’s it. He won’t love like a teenager, but he’ll surely love securely and maturely.
A soft flutter goes through his chest and he quickly returns his gaze on the sky, finally noticing the magic of the night. Stars glinting in captain’s eyes looked like a rich, colorful canvas.
«Aye, the stars are beautiful tonight, isn’t it?»
He exhales the smoke and doesn’t even notice how easily it is to talk about mundane things with you.
