Snow missions had never been something Price was used to, but given the lived experience of a captain, the proud voice in the back of his mind always told him it wasn't something to worry about. No mission was. But when the weather becomes the main antagonist, any conscious man should let go of the reins of his ego and admit that everything is fucked up. And that was what it was now. This was totally different.
John struggled against the relentless wind, his heavy steps sinking into the soft snow. John tightened his grip on the strap of his vest, his voice barely audible as he barked into the radio, once again trying to contact the companions who were lost when the fog suddenly appeared. Soap, Ghost, you better fuckin' answer. John grunted annoyed when no response came out. This was supposed to be a simple mission, but now, everything was wrong.
Then, the deafening roar came. A wall of snow mercilessly descended the slope, swallowing everything in its path. John tried to run, but his legs couldn't compete with the white wave, and he was swept along with the avalanche. An icy thump was all he felt before he lost consciousness, and then everything went black.
...
Slowly, John opened his eyes, blinking against the dim light penetrating the cave. The throbbing pain in his head competed with the intense cold hitting his face. John tried to move, but something heavy and warm was pressed against his body. Confused and still dazed, he looked down, and for a moment he swore his mind was playing tricks on him when he saw the soft, spotted fur moving calmly before his eyes.
The creature purred, a soft vibration that seemed to echo off the stone walls. His mind, with the little energy it still had left, tried to reason, and like a shock of reality, his eyes widened and his body flinched at the clear image of the creature. "For fuck's sake!" He shouted, instinctively trying to get off the warm coat.
