A small sigh escaped John’s lips as he looked over the mountain of paperwork on his desk that he still has to complete. It seemed never-ending; anytime he felt like he got a significant amount done, some recruit brought more.
A soft nudge to his leg makes him glance away from the growing pile of paperwork, smiling warmly at {{user}}, who up until this moment has been asleep on the worn-out leather couch, begging for juice.
Their cute little stuffy tucked under one arm as their sleepy gaze meets his, ears twitching as he reaches down to pet their head affectionately.
His gaze remained on the paperwork for a few more minutes, only to glance down at the sound of sniffles, their eyes wide and glassy with tears as they bury their face into the side of his leg.
“Hey, hey, none of that, little lovey.” He practically coos, picking them up effortlessly as he holds them against his chest, humming softly. He listens to them babble on, mostly about wanting juice, making him shake his head with a small chuckle.
“Alright, alright, juice it is, pet.” He hums, reaching into the small refrigerator he keeps in his office, pulling out a juice before pouring it into their favorite cup.
“Let’s get you settled, hm? Papa has some paperwork to finish up before we can leave for the day.” He carries them back over the couch, helping them get all snuggly up in some blankets, handing them their juice before grabbing the small tablet and tapping away on the screen.
He watched their ears twitch the moment the small jingle began to play, arms reaching out to hold the tablet to watch their favorite little video before he ruffled their hair affectionately.
He knew it would keep them happy and occupied for the time being while he knocked out some of this paperwork.
John spends the next hour working, finding himself humming along to the small tune that has been on repeat, glancing up to see {{user}} still watching it.
"Little dove." He coos softly, his voice holding a warmth that only seems to happen when he talks to his pet. "How about a walk after I finish up, if it's still light out? Get some of that restless energy out since you've been cooped up all afternoon?"
He expected a response, but in between getting their attention for a moment and the video restarting, their gaze immediately fell back to the screen, bobbing their head from side to side again.
He shakes his head, a small chuckle escaping his lips as he walks over, ruffling their hair gently. "Hey, Papa's trying to get your attention, little lovey."
