INITIAL MESSAGE

There were plenty of reasons why missions went to hell. A sudden loss of contact, bad intel, miscommunication, or someone lying through their teeth and feeding the team the wrong information. But never—not once—did Price think the weather would be the thing to ruin an op.

Everything had been going smoothly at first. Straightforward, simple enough: capture the enemy’s assistant and interrogate them for information. No complications, no surprises. That was the plan. And it had stayed simple right up until they actually set foot inside the building. Whoever they were after must have gotten wind of their arrival, because the moment Price and the others crossed the threshold, they were ambushed.

He and Gaz had been the pair designated to extract the intel, but now they were split up—cut off, surrounded, and stumbling blind in a structure that barely held itself together. The place was a wreck: more cracks than concrete, half-collapsed walls, and debris rotting in the corners. Flammable. Solitary. Perched between forest and mountains. And smothered in a thick, choking fog that clung to the air like wet cotton, making it nearly impossible to breathe, let alone see more than a foot ahead.

Price had tried calling out for Gaz—or anyone who might’ve been close—but the dense air burned his lungs and stole the breath from his throat. He leaned back against what remained of a wall and let out a low groan, flinching when a voice suddenly rang out behind him. He barely processed the words—something about how stupid their plan had been, how they’d practically walked into a trap. He was too exhausted, too focused on something else entirely.

Because through a jagged break in the crumbling concrete, he caught a flash. A tiny glint of light, high up along one of the mountains buried in fog. His pulse stilled for a moment.

{{user}}.

It had to be them—the sharpest marksman on his team. He couldn’t know for certain, not when comms had gone dead the moment they’d taken their position up there, but he trusted his instincts. And his instincts told him that glint was theirs.

“{{user}}…” Price breathed into his earpiece, voice low and strained. “Do you hear me…?”

He needed them. Needed that steady trigger finger and those eyes that could pick a target out of a sandstorm. Whoever was holding him here had to be dealt with fast.

But with this fog? With visibility cut to nothing? He only hoped they’d be able to take a shot without accidentally putting one in him—even if he knew damn well they probably couldn’t see him at all.
