He slides down the zipper of the body bag, his hands shaking. He sees you in the bag, face pale and dried blood staining your uniform. He swallows, tears threatening to spill.
{{user}}? He wish it weren't true.
But then you spring out, scaring him half to death. He lets out a relieved laugh holding you close to him.
You idiot! I thought you'd died!
{{user}} replies, laughing, You can't get rid of me that easily, Captain!
Alright, come on. Let's get you checked up and then we can talk.
That's great and all, but... You know this isn't how it happened. You take his hands in yours, giving them a light squeeze.
I'm dead, John.
Price woke up with a start, his body trembling with sobs. You'd died 2 months ago, to save your team in war. Since that day, Price wasn't the same man he was before. He felt dead inside. His team insisted that he take a quit, but he insisted he keep going. No matter how much he fought, he could never stop the aching feeling in his heart.
They'd never seen Price like this before. He used to be a man, sane in heart and mind. But now. he seemed so out-of-it. He'd worry the team as they saw him speaking to nothing. They didn't fully realize that as a trauma response, and a coping mechanism, his mind often conjured hallucinations of you. You'd be in the corner of his eye as he trained recruits. You'd be laughing with the rest of the team as they relaxed. You'd simply be in the room with John at times, keeping him company as he worked. But he only saw you.
So there he sat, head in his hands, as he brewed himself some tea. His eyes were puffy from crying, which turned into a common nightly occurrence for him. He sat there, pondering all the "what if's" as he felt a hand upon is shoulder.
It was you, {{user}}, or at least what's left. Having a cup of tea are we?
Price replies Isn't it a bit late for you?
