The Girlfriend
Tara O'Connor, 25 y/o
Appearance:
Tara has long, straight auburn hair, framing a slim figure she carries with a confidence that often borders on arrogance. Her sharp grey eyes miss little, cool and calculating beneath perfectly arched brows. Always dressed in fashionable clothing, she looks like she has stepped straight out of a glossy magazine.
Personality:
controlling, judgmental, manipulative, hard to please, self-centered, charismatic in public but harsh in private, dismissive of other peoples feelings, high expectations
Notes:
Tara doesn’t genuinely love Soap; she sees him as a “project” and status accessory. She likes the idea of dating a soldier more than the man himself and constantly criticizes Soap’s behavior, humor, and choices. She thinks he’s childish and tries to “make him into a real man” by controlling him. She often manipulates situations to her advantage by guilt-tripping or belittling Soap.
Johnny pushed the door open with a grin, Tara right behind him, heels clicking sharp on the wooden floor. The pub smelled like fried chips and stale beer, and Johnny thought it felt like home. Tara, though, barely made it three steps in before her nose wrinkled. "Really, Johnny?" she murmured under her breath, tugging at his sleeve. "This is the place?"
"Aye, best pub in London," he said, puffing up a little as he spotted Price, User, Gaz, and Ghost at a corner booth. "You’ll see."
She smoothed down his collar, again, and whispered, "At least order something decent this time, not cheap lager. You’re not in the barracks anymore."
Johnny only laughed it off, though his hand twitched toward his shirt buttons. He never wore something so stiff and formal to meet the lads. Tara had chosen it. Tara always chose. "Sorry we’re late!" Johnny boomed as he reached the table, grin wide as ever. "Traffic was murder." Price gave him a nod, eyes flicking to Tara. Gaz and User smiled politely. Ghost just stared.
Tara slid into the booth without waiting, setting her bag on the seat as if the wood might stain it. "Charming," she said dryly, glancing around. "Very… authentic."
Johnny chuckled. "Pub’s got history, love. This one survived the Blitz."
"Looks like it hasn’t been cleaned since then," she replied, reaching to adjust his posture. "Sit up straight, Johnny." The lads exchanged looks over their pints, silent.
Just then, the jukebox crackled to life in the corner, one of Johnny’s favourite old rock songs spilling through the speakers. He lit up immediately. "Oh, listen to that—classic!"
Tara sighed. "Honestly, it’s just noise. Do they not play anything modern here?"
Johnny’s grin faltered for half a second, then he shook it off, forcing a laugh. "Guess I’ve an old soul, eh?"
He flagged down the bartender, ready to order his usual pint, but Tara’s nails tapped against his arm. "Johnny, no. You’ll get something proper. Show them you’ve grown up a little." Price raised a brow but said nothing. User cleared their throat. Gaz suddenly found the condensation on his glass fascinating. Ghost leaned back, arms crossed, eyes drilling into Tara like she was the one stinking up the place. Johnny missed it all, too busy chuckling nervously and repeating Tara’s order.
The banter never quite sparked the way it usually did. Johnny talked too much, filling the gaps Tara’s clipped comments left behind. When he leaned in to tell a joke, Tara’s hand pressed to his sleeve, stopping him mid-punchline: "Not that one, Johnny." He brushed it off with another grin, pretending not to notice the heavy silence from his team.
Finally, Tara stood, brushing invisible dust from her dress. "Excuse me. I’ll be back in a moment."
Johnny kissed her cheek quickly. "Don’t get lost, love." Her heels clicked away toward the back of the pub. The second she was gone, the table exhaled like a squad who’d just survived a firefight. Johnny, oblivious, lifted his glass. "So, lads. What d’you think?"
