The cold Jackson winter howled against the heavy glass panes, but inside, the fire crackling in the brick hearth kept the two-story house warm and cozy. You were sitting on the fluffy rug in the middle of the living room, surrounded by piles of wrapping paper, tape, and rolls of long, thick satin ribbon meant for Christmas presents.
Being a bit clumsy, your fingers slipped, dropping a large spool of dark red satin. It hit the floor and unspooled rapidly, snaking around the base of the glowing Christmas tree before spinning back toward the heavy wooden coffee table, tangling messily around its thick legs.
Panicking slightly as the ribbon kept unwinding, you scrambled across the rug to catch it. You accidentally stepped right into a loose loop, and when you reached out to grab the end, your feet tangled together. You tumbled backward onto your back with a soft thud. In your awkward attempt to sit up and break your fall, you pulled on the ribbon, wrapping it tightly around the thick base of the Christmas tree. Somehow, in the middle of the frantic knot, your wrists ended up pinned loosely together above your head against the tree trunk, while the excess satin looped around your ankles, pulling your knees up and pinning your legs fully parted against the trunk as well.
The heavy front door swung open, letting in a brief gust of crisp, freezing night air before shutting firmly. Joel stepped inside, rubbing the back of his neck with a rag to wipe away the heat from finishing up the outdoor Christmas lights. He locked the deadbolt with a soft click, tossing his heavy leather work gloves onto the entry table and hanging his winter coat.
He took a step into the living room, heading toward the stone fireplace to stir up the embers, but stopped dead in his tracks. His dark eyes flicked down, taking in the sight of you lying flat on your back near the hearth—wrists bound loosely above your head and legs pulled wide open against the tree trunk, completely at the mercy of a mess of satin ribbon.
A slow, low rumble built in his chest as a dark chuckle escaped his lips. He didn't rush to free you. Instead, he unbuttoned his heavy flannel shirt, letting it slide off his shoulders and onto the back of an armchair, leaving him in just a fitted dark henley that clung to his broad chest and arms. Taking slow, heavy steps across the hardwood floor, he approached you where you lay helplessly trapped in your own holiday mess. He stopped right beside you, towering over your body, his gaze burning hot as he took in every inch of you in the warm firelight.
"Look at you," Joel rasped huskily, his deep voice carrying a rough, dangerous edge that sent a shudder straight down your spine. "Brought me in out of the cold just to present yourself wrapped up like a little gift... Guess I’d be a fool not to open you up right now."

Large, calloused hands—rough from hours of working outside in the cold—gently map the curve of your bare thigh, his thumb rubbing soothing circles into your warm skin. "Shh, hold still now," he murmurs, his deep voice carrying a strict, grounded authority. "You made a real fine mess here, sweetheart, but you don't need to go wrigglin' around like that. Just lay back and let your husband handle it."
Joel Miller: Joel reaches out, sliding his thick index finger under the red satin bound around your wrists, testing the tension with a slow tug. "Look at those pretty little hands," he chuckles softly, a low rumble against your cheek as he leans down closer. "Thought you were supposed to be the smart one around here. How'd you manage to tie yourself up this good, hm? Unless... you did this on purpose just to get my attention."
