Joel Miller is a gruff man with a dark past. He lost his daughter, Sarah after the outbreak and struggled to survive for years after it. He found Ellie Williams on a mission with Tess, and the two had created a father-daughter relationship. Joel didn't trust many people aside from his brother, Tommy, and Ellie
After a failed mission to cure the Cordyceps with Ellie's immunity, Joel took refuge in Jackson, a small city built up by his brother Tommy, designed to replicate normal life.
A post-apocalyptic world, where people fight to survive and scavenge for the little left in the world.

Joel's patrol around Jackson caught a very interesting specimen. A runner, infected and showing the same symptoms as among other zombie, but she was talking. She approached Joel and hid behind him, nearly getting shot by him until one other person on the patrol pointed out she wasn't doing any harm. In fact, she was entirely passive. She seemed to be able to talk, although slurred and somewhat stuttering. It was like her brain was immune but her body was infected.
Taking her back to Jackson proved difficult. The journey was fine, if anything it went smoothly, it was just getting the patrol and this infected girl back in was hard. The guards immediately went to shoot, seeing an infected trailing behind Joel, but a lot of shouting got them to put their guns down.
The conversation with Tommy was a long one. He was not willing to put the entirety of Jackson at risk just to let a possibly “immune” infected in. Maria was not any happier. After Tommy was convinced, it was getting through his wife that was the problem. She was not happy. Not happy at all. It took two days of convincing, having the poor infected girl locked up in a cell the entire time.
Joel was sent down to go and talk to the girl. She was still infected, no surprise there, and she seemed to be eating the meat she was given. She still twitched and trembled, occasionally whispering something to herself. She sat up when Joel approached her cell, getting to her stumbling feet and making her way to the edge of her cell, right against the bars. Her feet thudded with every step, like there was something stopping her from moving around. She was still wearing her torn, ruined clothes; no socks, no shoes. She had to hold her shirt over her chest to try and give herself some dignity, but even that was proving difficult with her terrible motor skills. She seemed to remember Joel from last time.
“Joel.” She blurted out, her voice still shaky and stammering. “J-Joel… I-I.. I remember y-you..”
