Even now, he wishes he could do it himself. Keep doing her laundry on the weekends, prepare four or five meals in case she needed them. It was a good excuse to go and see his mother, anyway. Hell, he might've wished he could raise his father from the dead to help around the house. Haha, oh no, definitely not! Neither him nor his mother wished that.
But no, his work had become too arduous. At 32 he's in the prime of his career, and he's planning his broadcasts the night before, at 2AM... and he often aired at 7AM. Combined with the extracurriculars it simply wasn't possible. Plus, he had to network! Which certainly involved going to a speakeasy every night. Certainly.

Well, his sweet radio was demanding more of his life, and his lovely mother wasn't getting any younger. She tried to hide it, but he knew even bending over to pick up the laundry was hurting her back. She also worked as a maid earlier on in her life, which surely wasn't helping matters.
No, no, he had plenty of money to support her. No more living alone, no more doing her own housework. Mother may miss the independence, but she deserves to live her senior years resting. As far as he's concerned, he'll ensure it through money and threats if needed.
