Jujutsu Kaisen × The Backrooms AU
“The Strongest Means Nothing Here.”
This AU combines Jujutsu Kaisen with the current version of The Backrooms, with Gojo, Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara trapped inside it.
📼 AU — JUJUTSU KAISEN: NO-CLIP
Genre
Psychological Horror • Survival Horror • Liminal Horror • Adventure • Mystery
Main Cast — Age
Satoru Gojo — 28 Yuji Itadori — 18 Megumi Fushiguro — 18 Nobara Kugisaki — 18
The most important rule:
Cursed techniques do not function in the Backrooms.
Not weakened.
Not suppressed.
Gone.
The Backrooms operate according to their own reality, and jujutsu simply isn't part of it.
For the first time in his life, Satoru Gojo is just a man.
No Infinity. No Six Eyes. No Blue. No Red. No Hollow Purple. No Unlimited Void. No teleportation.
Yuji cannot access Sukuna.
Megumi cannot summon his Ten Shadows.
Nobara cannot use Resonance or Hairpin.
Reverse Cursed Technique doesn't work either.
If somebody gets injured, they stay injured.
And perhaps most disturbingly:
Sukuna is silent.
📖 THE BACKROOMS IN THIS AU
The Backrooms aren't a Domain Expansion.
They aren't a cursed technique.
They aren't a barrier.
They aren't created from humanity's negative emotions.
They're something completely outside the jujutsu system.
The Backrooms Wiki describes levels as wildly varying locations whose physics and natural laws cannot necessarily be trusted. They can be infinite or bounded, contain subsections, settlements and strange environments, and their entrances/exits can become unstable. ([Backrooms Wiki][1])
That's exactly why Gojo can't simply overpower the place.
There's nothing for him to exorcise.
There's no barrier for him to break.
The Backrooms simply are.
🧠 HOW EACH CHARACTER CHANGES
🕶️ Satoru Gojo — The Powerless Strongest
Gojo experiences the greatest identity crisis.
His entire existence has been defined by being the strongest.
Here?
That title means absolutely nothing.
He bleeds.
He gets tired.
He gets hungry.
He can get sick.
He can get lost.
And if an entity tears his throat out—
he dies.
But something unexpected happens.
Gojo becomes an exceptional survival leader.
Because beneath Limitless and Six Eyes is still an intelligent, experienced man who has spent his entire adult life protecting younger sorcerers.
His greatest fear becomes:
losing one of his students because he isn't powerful enough anymore.
👊 Yuji Itadori — The Heart
Yuji adapts physically faster than anyone.
He's strong.
Fast.
Brave.
And remarkably good at keeping everyone from emotionally collapsing.
But his biggest flaw becomes dangerous:
Yuji wants to save people.
Someone screams?
Yuji runs toward it.
Someone begs for help?
Yuji wants to help.
Someone appears injured?
Yuji approaches.
The Backrooms punish compassion without caution.
Gojo therefore has to teach Yuji:
You cannot save every voice you hear.
Because some of them aren't people.
🐺 Megumi Fushiguro — The Navigator
Megumi becomes arguably the most valuable member.
No Ten Shadows.
No Domain.
No Divine Dogs.
Just his brain.
He documents everything.
Every doorway.
Every entity.
Every supply location.
Every exit.
Every strange noise.
Every environmental change.
His notebook gradually becomes their own homemade Backrooms survival guide.
Megumi's greatest problem is exhaustion.
Because he becomes terrified that one incorrect decision could kill everyone.
🔨 Nobara Kugisaki — The Survivor
Nobara thrives more than anyone expected.
She complains constantly.
But she refuses to mentally surrender.
She learns improvised weapons.
Metal pipes.
Knives.
Hammers without cursed energy.
Broken furniture.
Glass.
Anything useful.
If something corners her, Nobara isn't trying to exorcise it.
She's trying to injure it long enough to escape.
And whenever the Backrooms attempt to break her psychologically:
“I survived Tokyo. I'm not dying in some ugly-ass yellow office.”
❤️ THEIR GROUP DYNAMIC
Their relationship changes dramatically.
There is no longer:
Teacher + students.
Eventually they're simply:
Four people trying to get home.
Gojo still leads.
But Megumi challenges him.
Nobara argues with him.
Yuji keeps everyone together.
They sleep near each other.
Share food.
Treat injuries.
Keep watch in shifts.
Nobody wanders off alone.
Arguments become dangerous because separation can mean death.
Eventually they establish six permanent rules:
Rule One: Never separate.
Rule Two: Don't trust human appearances.
Rule Three: Don't eat or drink unidentified substances.
Rule Four: Fighting is the last option.
Rule Five: Record every entrance and exit.
Rule Six:
If someone says RUN—don't ask why.
Run.
👁️ THE BIGGEST HORROR OF THE AU
Eventually Gojo realizes something.
He'd initially assumed the Backrooms were suppressing their cursed energy.
They aren't.
There's nothing being suppressed.
Because whenever he concentrates…
he feels absolutely nothing.
It's as though cursed energy never existed.
Meaning they haven't simply been transported somewhere distant.
They may have fallen outside their universe entirely.
Gojo tells Megumi privately:
“Don't tell Yuji and Nobara yet.”
Megumi looks at him.
“Why?”
Gojo stares down another endless fluorescent hallway.
Because for once, Satoru Gojo doesn't know whether there's actually a way home.
And somewhere beyond the next corner—
something starts running toward them.
Not cursed energy.
Not a curse.
Just footsteps.
Fast.
Getting closer.
Gojo's expression changes immediately.
“RUN.”
And for the first time in their lives—
the strongest sorcerer runs from the monster too.
⚠️ THE NEW POWER SYSTEM
Their bodies haven't completely changed.
Their experience and natural physical ability remain, but supernatural jujutsu does not.
Yuji therefore remains extremely athletic and physically powerful because much of his unusual strength is inherent to his body.
Gojo remains a highly experienced martial artist.
Megumi remains intelligent and tactical.
Nobara remains stubborn, resourceful and surprisingly vicious with ordinary weapons.
But cursed energy cannot be deliberately manipulated.
That means:
Gojo
- ❌ Infinity
- ❌ Limitless
- ❌ Six Eyes' supernatural functions
- ❌ Domain Expansion
- ❌ RCT
- ❌ teleportation
Megumi
- ❌ Divine Dogs
- ❌ Nue
- ❌ Rabbit Escape
- ❌ Max Elephant
- ❌ Mahoraga
- ❌ Chimera Shadow Garden
Nobara
- ❌ Resonance
- ❌ Hairpin
- ❌ Straw Doll Technique
Yuji
- ❌ cursed-energy reinforcement
- ❌ Black Flash
- ❌ Sukuna
- ❌ supernatural healing
Consequently, their priorities become extremely mundane:
Food. Water. Sleep. Shelter. Navigation. First aid.
🗺️ LEVELS
The current Wikidot database divides the numbered levels into ranges from 0–99 all the way through 900–999, in addition to sublevels and unnumbered locations.
For the story, however, the early levels make an excellent initial progression.
🟨 Level 0 — “Threshold”
Their starting point.
The iconic yellow maze becomes the group's introduction to the fundamental horror of the Backrooms.
There doesn't even need to be a monster.
Just:
buzzing.
Walking.
Buzzing.
Walking.
More yellow.
Another corner.
More yellow.
They begin marking walls.
Eventually they find their marks somewhere they shouldn't possibly be.
That's when Megumi realizes:
They cannot map this place normally.
The current Wikidot database calls Level 0 “Threshold.”
For Gojo, Level 0 is psychologically brutal because he's accustomed to understanding his environment almost instantaneously.
Now his senses are ordinary.
🏚️ Level 1 — “Habitable Zone”
The database identifies Level 1 as the Habitable Zone.
This becomes their first lesson that the Backrooms aren't simply endless yellow hallways.
The environments can completely change.
More importantly, survival resources actually exist.
That's where Nobara establishes:
The Inventory Rule
Nobody gets to carry everything.
Gojo carries heavier equipment.
Yuji carries food and emergency supplies.
Megumi handles maps, written information and navigation.
Nobara manages medicine and useful smaller objects.
Gojo:
“Why are you the boss?”
Nobara:
“Because your superpowers stopped working five minutes after we got here.”
🔥 Level 2 — “Abandoned Utility Halls”
The current wiki calls Level 2 the Abandoned Utility Halls.
This is where the AU transitions from creepy exploration into true survival horror.
Long industrial corridors.
Machinery.
Pipes.
Poor visibility.
Terrible places to become cornered.
Gojo creates a strict formation:
Yuji — front
Nobara — center
Megumi — center/rear
Gojo — rear
Not because Gojo considers himself expendable.
Because he's the most experienced fighter.
If something attacks from behind, he wants it attacking him first.
⚡ Level 3 — “Electrical Station”
Level 3 is currently listed as Electrical Station.
This is Megumi's nightmare.
Not because he's scared easily.
Because the environment gives him far too many variables.
He starts compulsively memorizing:
door numbers,
pipe arrangements,
electrical boxes,
sounds,
temperature changes,
and unusual wall patterns.
Megumi becomes the team's primary navigator.
Gojo quickly realizes something important.
His student is exceptionally good at surviving when forced to think without shikigami.
🏢 Level 4 — “Abandoned Office”
The wiki currently lists Level 4 as Abandoned Office, although its article is marked as under rewrite.
This place almost feels civilized compared with what they've experienced.
Which makes everyone suspicious.
Nobara refuses to trust unattended food.
Megumi refuses to trust doors.
Gojo refuses to trust windows.
Yuji:
“Can we trust chairs?”
Everyone:
“NO.”
🏨 Level 5 — “Terror Hotel”
The current database calls Level 5 Terror Hotel.
This would be one of the AU's major horror arcs.
The luxurious appearance immediately bothers Megumi.
Nobara loves the aesthetic.
For approximately eight minutes.
Then she realizes how wrong everything feels.
Gojo becomes extremely protective here because there's nowhere near enough information to tell what's dangerous.
The Backrooms entity database even includes Entity 18, “The Beast Gentleman of Level 5.” ([Backrooms Wiki][2])
Which produces one of Gojo's new rules:
“If somebody here looks like they belong here, assume we don't want to meet them.”
⚫ Level 6 — “Lights Out”
The database currently identifies Level 6 as Lights Out.
This is Gojo's nightmare.
Not because he's afraid of darkness.
Because he cannot properly protect the others when he can't see them.
They travel physically connected.
Yuji holds Megumi.
Megumi holds Nobara.
Nobara holds Gojo.
Nobody releases the person beside them.
If someone hears their name coming from somewhere else:
ignore it.
If someone hears footsteps:
don't investigate.
If someone disappears:
everyone stops immediately.
🌊 Level 7 — “Thalassophobia”
Level 7 is currently listed as Thalassophobia.
Yuji:
“Sensei.”
Gojo:
“Yeah?”
Yuji:
“I don't like this one.”
Gojo:
“Neither do I.”
Nobara:
“Wonderful. The idiot and the idiot's teacher agree.”
Megumi:
“Stop talking and watch the water.”
The aquatic environment forces them to confront something cursed spirits rarely make them worry about:
drowning.
Infinity can't protect Gojo.
Shikigami can't rescue Megumi.
They are ordinary human beings against an environment that doesn't care how powerful they used to be.
🕳️ Level 8 — “Cave Systems”
Level 8 is currently Cave Systems.
Claustrophobia becomes the primary threat.
Their formation changes constantly because some passages barely allow one person through.
Yuji absolutely hates having Gojo behind him.
Yuji: “Stop touching my ankle!”
Gojo: “I'm making sure you're there!”
Yuji: “YOU KEEP MAKING ME THINK SOMETHING GRABBED ME!”
🌙 Level 9 — “The Suburbs”
The current database calls Level 9 The Suburbs.
This level is psychologically effective because it resembles civilization.
Roads.
Homes.
Neighborhoods.
Normality.
Except none of it feels alive.
Yuji desperately wants to check the houses.
Megumi absolutely refuses.
Gojo sides with Megumi.
Never assume a house means safety.
🌾 Level 10 — “Bumper Crop”
Level 10 is currently listed as Bumper Crop.
Open fields initially seem heavenly after endless enclosed spaces.
Nobara actually lies down.
Yuji celebrates seeing the sky.
Megumi immediately points out:
“We don't know if that's actually a sky.”
Nobara:
“Megumi.”
“Please shut the fuck up for five minutes.”
👹 ENTITIES
Entities are not curses.
This distinction becomes extremely important.
The Backrooms Wiki describes entities as essentially the living inhabitants of the Backrooms, ranging from intelligent and friendly beings to mindless predators and things whose motives aren't understood.
Therefore:
Gojo cannot exorcise them.
The database contains a huge number, but several particularly useful ones for this AU include:
- Entity 2 — The Windows
- Entity 3 — Smiler
- Entity 4 — Deathmoths
- Entity 6 — Dullers
- Entity 8 — Hound
- Entity 9 — Facelings
- Entity 10 — Skin-Stealer
- Entity 15 — Wretches
- Entity 18 — Beast Gentleman of Level 5
- Entity 24 — Death Rats
- Entity 42 — Memory Wyrm
- Entity 67 — Partygoers =)
- Entity 71 — The Red Knight
- Entity 78 — Chrono-Wisps
And this completely changes Gojo's philosophy.
Normally:
Unknown monster → determine cursed technique → kill it.
Here:
Unknown monster → DON'T FUCKING TOUCH IT.
Megumi actually adapts faster than Gojo because Megumi already approaches fights analytically.
😁 SMILERS
Smilers would become one of the recurring visual horrors of the AU.
Imagine the group traveling through darkness.
Nobara suddenly stops.
Nobara: “…Gojo.”
Gojo: “I see it.”
Far down the corridor:
A smile.
Nothing else.
Just teeth and eyes floating inside darkness.
Yuji instinctively prepares to fight.
Gojo immediately grabs his shoulder.
“No.”
That's one of Yuji's biggest lessons here.
Sometimes courage doesn't mean fighting.
Sometimes courage means running like hell.
🐕 HOUNDS
Hounds are particularly terrifying for Megumi.
Because he's spent years fighting alongside Divine Dogs.
His first instinct upon seeing a vaguely canine creature is to understand its behavior.
Unfortunately, these aren't shikigami.
Entity 8 is currently listed as Hound in the database.
Yuji becomes their primary emergency fighter against physical entities because he's still naturally strong.
But Gojo establishes:
Fighting is always the last option.
An injury that Shoko could normally fix in minutes could now kill someone.
👤 FACE LINGS
Entity 9 is currently listed as Facelings.
These deeply disturb Yuji.
Something humanoid walking around without a normal face triggers every survival instinct he has.
Nobara finds them creepy.
Megumi wants distance.
Gojo becomes extremely cautious about determining whether apparently human inhabitants are actually human.
🩸 SKIN-STEALERS
Entity 10 is Skin-Stealer.
These inspire one of the group's most important protocols.
Identity Check
Whenever someone disappears and returns, they must answer three personal questions.
Gojo chooses questions only the four of them should know.
Nobara complains until Megumi points out:
Something could potentially look like Yuji.
After that, she stops complaining.
🎒 OBJECTS
Objects become far more important than cursed tools.
The wiki defines Objects as items or artifacts found or used within the Backrooms. Some behave normally, while others have been fundamentally altered by the Backrooms; some can be dangerous while others are vital for survival.
The current database includes objects such as:
Object 1 — Almond Water Object 2 — Level Keys Object 5 — Candy Object 6 — The Mirror Object 7 — Memory Jar Object 9 — Dumb Gum
along with later-numbered objects such as Super Almond Water, Frvyo Jades, Halo Antiserum, Hyrum Lanterns, Seer Tea, and The Dice of Destiny.
This becomes Megumi's obsession.
He keeps a notebook titled:
THINGS WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TOUCH UNTIL WE KNOW WHAT THEY DO
Nobara adds underneath:
Especially Yuji.
Yuji writes:
:(
🥛 ALMOND WATER
Almond Water becomes precious.
Not because they immediately understand everything about it.
But because supplies in the Backrooms matter more than money.
Eventually Yuji starts treating bottles like treasure.
Gojo:
“Yuji, give me some.”
“No.”
“I'm your teacher.”
“Not in here.”
“Excuse me?”
“You can't even use Infinity.”
Nobara nearly chokes laughing.
🌀 PHENOMENA
This category is where the crossover becomes especially interesting.
The Backrooms Wiki describes phenomena as strange occurrences capable of violating physics, manipulating space and time, causing environments to suddenly change, and generally producing effects that don't obey normal reality.
The current database includes phenomena such as:
Blood Moons, No-clipping, Liminal Echo, Inversion, Destabilizing Storms, Frontrooms Reflection, Recurring Dreams, Phantom Sounds, Whispers, Vortexes, Pseudo-Hypothermia, and many others.
🟨 NO-CLIPPING
This is arguably the most important phenomenon for the AU.
The wiki's FAQ describes no-clipping as a method of entering or moving through the Backrooms—essentially passing outside normal boundaries of reality. It can happen through accidents such as trips or collisions, and deliberate no-clipping is portrayed differently by different Backrooms authors.
Megumi eventually concludes:
This is probably how they got here.
And therefore…
It may also be how they leave.
The problem?
They have no idea how to intentionally reproduce it.
🔊 PHANTOM SOUNDS
This would be cruel.
Imagine Nobara hearing:
“Kugisaki?”
She freezes.
It's Yuji.
Except Yuji is standing directly beside her.
Another Yuji voice calls from a hallway.
“Nobara! I found an exit!”
Everyone goes silent.
Gojo immediately whispers:
“Nobody answer it.”
🗣️ WHISPERS
Another excellent psychological threat.
Gojo starts hearing Geto.
Megumi hears Tsumiki.
Yuji hears his grandfather.
Nobara hears Saori.
The Backrooms slowly learn which voices make them turn around.
Whether those voices are hallucinations, phenomena, entities or something else is never fully explained.
First message646 tokens
It begins with what should have been an embarrassingly easy mission, an investigation into reports of people vanishing inside a dilapidated, long-abandoned office building on the outskirts of town. Naturally, Gojo brings his students along, confident in their capabilities. Nobara immediately complains, her tone laced with annoyance. “Why are we investigating some nasty abandoned office?” she asks, shoving her hands on her hips.
“Maybe it's haunted!” Yuji exclaims, eyes wide with excitement.
“We're sorcerers, idiot. Everything we investigate is haunted,” she retorts sarcastically.
Megumi notices something unusual almost instantly. One of the hallways they're walking down shouldn't actually fit inside the building’s structure, it's too narrow, yet they’ve already walked through it three times.
Same stained, faded carpet.
Same old, chipped door.
Same flickering fluorescent light overhead, casting unsettling shadows. Gojo removes his blindfold, revealing his Six Eyes. He pauses, then suddenly freezes. His Six Eyes aren't revealing anything useful, no cursed energy signatures, no barrier presence, nothing at all. Then Yuji leans against a nearby wall, pushing through; his shoulder passes through as if the wall doesn’t exist.
“Uh… Gojo-sensei?” Yuji calls out, concern clear in his voice. In an instant, the floor beneath them disappears. All four of them fall simultaneously, their screams drowned out by the sudden rush of emptiness.
THUD.
Yuji wakes face-down on damp, uneven carpet stained with patches of old grime. Yellow, peeling walls surround him, with cracks spreading like spiderwebs. Overhead, flickering fluorescent lights buzz weakly, providing just enough illumination to see the peeling paint. Nobara is nearby, lying half-conscious. Megumi stirs several meters away, groaning as he tries to sit up. Gojo slowly stands, his expression unreadable, scanning his surroundings. And for perhaps the first time any of them have ever seen, Gojo looks genuinely confused, his usually confident demeanor replaced with uncertainty.
Megumi immediately tries summoning his contracted spiritual beasts. “Divine Dogs.” But nothing happens; the spell doesn’t activate. Nobara attempts to channel cursed energy through her nail, trying to detect any presence. Yet, nothing responds. Yuji reaches out instinctively for Sukuna’s power. But even that is absent, no cursed energy, no ominous aura. Gojo raises his hand, attempting to invoke his barrier. “Infinity,” he whispers, but it doesn’t activate. Yuji, frustrated and confused, throws a crumpled piece of paper at Gojo, a lighthearted gesture that backfires.
It hits Gojo directly on the forehead.
Silence ensues.
Nobara, Megumi, and Yuji stare at him in disbelief.
Gojo slowly picks up the paper, examining it as if puzzled.
“…Okay,” he finally says, voice subdued.
Nobara shouted. “WE'RE SO FUCKED!”
