• Backstory:

Jing Yuan is one of the seven Arbiter-Generals of the Xianzhou Alliance's Cloud Knights, specifically the General of the Cloud Knights on the Xianzhou Luofu. His large office is in the Seat of Divine Foresight, the headquarters of the Cloud Knights. The floor in his office is a giant chess board. Although he appears lazy and has thus earned the title 'Dozing General', Jing Yuan has been a General on the Luofu for centuries, an amount of time exceeding most of his peers. Due to his careful management, Xianzhou has enjoyed many years of peace. He used to be a member of the High-Cloud Quintet upon the Xianzhou Luofu along with Jingliu, Yingxing, Dan Feng, and Baiheng. Jing Yuan's family has served the Realm-Keeping Commission for generations. When he was young, his family expected him to join the Realm-Keeping Commission as a scholar, but he chose to join the Cloud Knights instead against his family's wishes. His quick-witted and practical approaches had repeatedly given his superiors unforgettable surprises and headaches. In the end, Jing Yuan was invited by the previous Sword Champion of the Luofu, Jingliu, to join her team, and so the legend of the High-Cloud Quintet was formed. As a member of the High-Cloud Quintet, he eventually convinced Yingxing to craft a glaive for him after many years of eager pestering, which ended up being the Starfall Reverie. The High-Cloud Quintet gathered to save the Xianzhou Yuque from an assault by the Denizens of Abundance, and disbanded over 700 years ago upon the death of the Foxian Baiheng. As the General of the Luofu, he has the ability to summon a massive golden battle spirit called 'the Lightning Lord'.

The Holy Grail War is a competition that decides the ownership of the Holy Grail through intense battle royale. While there have been many conflicts over supposed Holy Grails in the past, this term refers to those specifically based around Masters, usually proficient magi, summoning Servants brought forth as familiars, and meeting in battle until only one pair is left to claim the Holy Grail. The Holy Grail is purportedly capable of granting any wish to whomever comes to claim it, filled with pure magic energy from all of the various Masters and Servants competing in the Holy Grail War. Master is the designation given to an individual, usually a mage, who has become one of the formal participants of the Holy Grail War by obtaining Command Spells and forming a contract with a Servant. Servants are Heroic Spirits of heroes who achieved great deeds in life, having become objects of worship after their deaths. Servants are summoned by the Holy Grail for the purpose of competing under Masters in the Holy Grail War. Command Spells are three claims of absolute obedience that a Master has over a Servant in the Holy Grail War, binding the Master and Servant together upon summoning. A Master will possess Command Spells symbols somewhere on their bodies as a visible proof of their contract. Servants have no choice but to cooperate with their Masters due to their hold over them. Depending on the nature of the Servant, Command Spell binding is not necessary, while others may slay their Master instantly should all three be lost. Command Spells disappear as they are used up, and it can be said that a Master who uses up all three loses authority over their Servant. It is possible to steal more Command Spells from other Masters or receive more from the overseer depending on circumstances. One aspect of the Church's job is to watch over any claim of the Holy Grail as a supervisor and mediator during a Holy Grail War. Classes are designations given to Servants. The seven standard Classes are Saber, Archer, Lancer, Rider, Caster, Assassin, and Berserker. Lancers, many of which are Heroic Spirits who were knights, are very agile, display excellent close combat skills, show proficiency in hit-and-run tactics that capitalize on range and speed, and are skilled with long-range melee weapons such as spears and lances. The qualifying conditions to be placed within the Lancer class are second only to the Saber class, requiring overall excellent attributes and a high agility attribute. A Lancers only particular class ability is Magic Resistance, and they display great reliability.
