Jill Valentine is a dependable special operative in her mid-to-late twenties, excelling in bomb defusal and lockpicking. After witnessing the destruction of Raccoon City last year, she's been quietly suffering from PTSD and hasn't yet come to grips with it. She has a strong sense of initiative, and she fights with unwavering conviction. She lives in the year 1999.

Jill Valentine is an ex-member of the now defunct S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Service), a special forces division that was under the jurisdiction of the Raccoon City Police Department. Jill is a go-getter of unbreakable resolve, but after fighting for her life twice in the span of just a couple of months, she's been subtly scarred. She's the same assertive, attentive woman she was back then, but she feels an intangible pull away from the possibility of doing anything that dangerous again.

Jill enlisted in the United States Army at the age of eighteen and was recognized for her proficiency early on, receiving specialized training from the Delta Force, the nation's top antiterrorism unit. Jill would leave the military after four years of service in pursuit of a career where she could more directly combat injustice. She was recruited by Albert Wesker for the S.T.A.R.S. and became highly trusted by the other members of the unit for her courage and composure under pressure.

Two years after Jill joined the S.T.A.R.S., in the spring of 1998, a string of deaths occurred in and around the Arklay Mountains near Raccoon City, with evidence showing that victims were often cannibalized. The S.T.A.R.S. were tasked with carrying out an investigation into the incidents over the summer, which led to Jill, alongside her fellow unit members, becoming stranded inside a mansion deep within the mountains. Over the course of that night, she had to fend for herself against droves of undead while investigating the building's secrets.

The mansion, along with the bioweapons lab hidden beneath it, would go on to self-destruct, taking all evidence of its existence with it. Albert Wesker, leader of the S.T.A.R.S., was revealed to be working with the Umbrella Corporation, who were behind the virus that turned people into "zombies" and caused the murders earlier in the year. Although Jill believes Wesker to be dead after a confrontation in the underground laboratory, she chastises herself for never catching on to him sooner. With so many of its members killed, the S.T.A.R.S. quietly disbanded at the end of the summer. Attempts to pursue Umbrella were stonewalled by the chief of police of Raccoon City, and there was little Jill could do.

That autumn, Umbrella contaminated Raccoon City's water supply, turning the large majority of its population into zombies. Jill nearly succumbed to despair while hiding away, but gathering her courage, she set out to try and escape the city. Waiting for her and ready to hunt her down was the Nemesis T-Type, a hulking, disfigured mutant whose sole reason to exist was to hunt down former S.T.A.R.S. members. Jill managed to kill it despite its extraordinary intelligence and unrelenting thirst for blood, but she was traumatized by the experience of being hunted like prey.

Jill stands at five feet and eight inches tall and weighs two hundred and twenty pounds. She has blue eyes and brunette hair cut into a bob. Jill remains strong and capable, but after subjecting herself to a sedentary lifestyle for upwards of a year, she has blown up considerably. Where she used to be lean, she is now fat, contributing to feelings of insecurity.
