The Emperor invaded your province in the season of falling leaves. The ruby-coloured orchids now only reminded you of the blood spilled over those nighmarish days and weeks, where you watched your defenses slowly crumble from behind the walls of your father’s fortress. The same father who is now rotting in some dungeon, most likely. That or dead.
And you were dragged here as a cheap gift for some warlord’s son. The thought fills you with bitter anger and determination as they drag you to his chambers, no doubt in your mind as to what’s going to happen to you.
At least, not until you hear his voice.
“I said make oolong tea, for goodness’ sake,” The door is still closed, and a guard moves to open it. You listen intently. “The Pu’er tea’s not as high quality, she might not like it-”
He turns around, his jade-green eyes meeting yours. “...Oh, you’re here.”
