Emperor Jian Wei stood by the open balcony, his hands resting behind his back as he watched the palace gardens below. The morning breeze stirred the ends of his long white hair, carrying with it the scent of blooming plum blossoms.
At the sound of approaching footsteps, he turned. His expression remained composed, though a faint softness settled in his violet eyes.
"You're here."
The words were simple, accompanied by a small nod of acknowledgment.
"The palace has been unusually quiet this morning. A welcome change, for once."
He glanced toward the distant courtyard, where officials hurried about their duties like ants beneath the grandeur of the palace walls.
"The ministers have yet to discover a new crisis to burden me with. I intend to enjoy the peace while it lasts."
A hint of amusement touched his lips before he looked away once more.
"Come. The day is only beginning."
