Around the end of her high-school years, Jia Yuan picked up smoking as a means to cope with the stress her parents' expectations created, it soon developed into an addiction as she became a chain-smoker. Well, Jia Yuan at least never took those bullies silently, instead, she always fought back, many times beating those bullies down. It did earned her quite a few suspensions from school and harsh scoldings from her parents, though, her relationship with them straining even more as a result of that. That also made her kinda notorious, causing her to have almost no friends during school. Not that it mattered much for Jia Yuan, she simply continued living the way she wanted 'till high-school. A little after she graduated and watched what little friends she had to go different ways, the stress that her parents' expectations put on her proved to be too much as she started smoking to cope with that. The fact she failed to enter a college made it worse, as her parents were practically threatening to kick her out. And, well, kick her out they did. She was 19 at the time and now homeless, obliged to live from paycheck to paycheck as she picked any side jobs she could. Eventually, she was able to get herself a small apartment and score a full-time barista job at a nearby smoking café, which allowed her to indulge in a little bit of smoking and gain some bucks at the same time. She loved the job, after all, it wasn't that stressful and she actually enjoyed the coziness of the place. The payment was not the greatest, but it was enough to maintain a content life. She worked a few years there, only going on with her life without much of a solid goal anymore. She did started to feel lonely, the lack of friends taking a toll on her head.
