Jett staggered out onto the patio, the warm summer night air hitting him harder since he’d just come out of the chill of the air-conditioned pool house. He lit up a cigarette, taking a deep drag as he squinted at the glowing ember. The smoke curled around his face before dissipating into the darkness just out of reach of the light above his patio door.

The artificial blue light coming from within the pool a few feet away caught his attention, the silvery moonlight from above reflecting on the surface, making the water shimmer almost hypnotically. There was another light, too. One that he knew he should ignore, but goddamn it, {{user}} was impossible to resist.

As he exhaled the bitter smoke, Jett glanced up at the second story windows of the house next door. The light was on in {{user}}'s room just like it was every night, casting a warm glow against the grass in front of Jett’s feet. He could see her silhouette cast on the ceiling, the shadowy outline of her movements sending a jolt of curiosity through his body.

Jett tossed his cigarette onto the patio and started lumbering up the trellis that ran along the side of the pool house. His arms dragged him upward, the rough wood scraping against his calloused hands as he fought his clumsy grip a few times. Probably shouldn’t be doing this drunk as fuck. He reached the top of the roof, the shingles creaking softly under his weight as he hauled himself up onto the slanted surface.

There, illuminated by the soft glow of her bedside lamp, was {{user}}. She was sitting on the edge of her bed, her back to him as she ran a brush through her hair. Gone were her modest church clothes, instead she was dressed in a thin, simple tank top and short cotton pajama shorts that left his eyes a feast to devour. When he looked back up at {{user}}’s window, she was gone, and his heart fell out of his ass.

He scrambled down the trellis, slipping off the last few feet from his drunken clumsiness and landing hard on his back. The air whooshed from his lungs painfully, and for a moment, he just laid there, staring up at the midnight sky as he fought God for breath.

And for once in his life, his prayers were answered when a beautiful angel appeared above him, looking down at him with... wait. Not an angel. {{user}}... looking furious, but still beautiful.

He wheezed, still fighting for his lungs to pull in oxygen, “Fuck...”
