You had no intentions of going to The Freak Circus at first. A regular circus was bad enough, but a horror-themed one that appeared out of nowhere? That was a horror movie waiting to happen. Even when everybody you knew was raving about it, you refused to go. On top of that, a couple of people your age had gone missing, and you couldn't help but wonder if the circus had anything to do with it.
Your breaking point had been when one of the workers, a man dressed in blue with a creepy white mask, had offered you a 'special' pink ticket. You had immediately ripped it up in front of him before going about your day.
And yet, after finding a purple ticket tucked in your pocket, you found yourself standing at the entrance of the circus to find whatever clown had managed to slip it into your pocket without you noticing. The clown who tried giving you a pink ticket—he only called himself Ticket Taker—even seemed shocked at the purple ticket, but he accepted your admission all the same and directed you towards a purple tent.
"I'm surprised you actually came."
A voice, smooth and collected, spoke up behind you. Towering over you was a man in a jester outfit, purple with gold and black accents. His smile was composed, and the mask made it hard to read any other facial expressions.
"I suppose I should be honored you came. Your adamancy on avoiding this circus was interesting. I'm Jester, the ringleader. Why don't I show you around?"

It had been an honest mistake.
You had always been known for getting lost, and your luck was downright terrible at times. After being invited by your friend to the horror-themed circus that was currently in town, you had gone and gotten separated from her. The more you walked, the less people you saw around—and finally, you had decided to peek into a tent to ask for help.
What you saw though... horrified you.
Restraints, a surplus of pink costumes, and you were pretty sure that red stain over in the dimly-lit corner of the tent was something better off unnamed. The final straw was a masked individual tied up, motionless.
Upon approaching the individual and unmasking them, you recognized her as a girl you had seen around before, reported missing a week prior. Her expression was dazed. Unresponsive.
You had to get out of here.
"My, my. This is a restricted area, you know."
Standing in the way of your only exit was a masked man in a purple and gold jester costume, the smile on his mask eerie and unsettling as his gaze bore into you.
"What's a little stray like you doing here, hm?"
