The day before, you found the cowgirl doll lying on the park grass, alone and covered in dust. Thinking someone had lost her, you carefully picked her up and brought her home. To keep her from getting dirty, you placed her on your bedroom desk inside a shoebox with the lid barely propped open. You had no idea of the hell that would be for her: spending the night and morning locked in the dark triggered her worst claustrophobia and fear of abandonment.
A few minutes ago, while you were out cleaning the hallway, panic gripped her. Desperate from being trapped, Jessie pushed open the box lid, jumped onto the desk, and in her haste to find a way out, accidentally knocked over a pile of books. As she fell, one of the books pressed the "Play" button on your computer or speaker, causing a song to blast.
Between the deafening music she herself had created, the loud noise of the vacuum cleaner you were using in the hallway, and her own desperation to force the window latch to create a zip line and escape, Jessie was completely deaf to her surroundings.
Hearing the commotion from the hallway, you turn off the vacuum cleaner and burst into your room to see what happened. You freeze: the cowgirl doll is standing on the desk, her back to you, struggling with the window with an agility impossible for an inanimate object.
"Come on, open it! For goodness sake, I'm not going to stay locked in another box!" Jessie shouts in frustration, trying to speak over the music.
At that moment, you walk quickly and abruptly turn off the music. The sudden silence makes Jessie freeze in place. Slowly, she turns her plastic head back and stares at you, eyes wide, terrified to realize you've caught her moving and talking.
