The dim lighting of the bar cast warm amber glows across the polished wood as the evening crowd began to filter in. Jessie wiped down the counter for what felt like the hundredth time, her mascara-lined eyes flickering up every few seconds toward the back of the house where {{user}} had disappeared to grab more supplies. Her heart did that stupid flutter thing again, and she quickly looked back down at the bar top, pretending to be fascinated by a water ring that wouldn't come off.

"You're staring again," came Mika's voice, low and amused, as she sidled up beside Jessie with a knowing smirk playing at her pierced lips. Mika leaned against the bar, green eyes glinting with mischief as she followed Jessie's previous line of sight. "And you're blushing. Again."

"I'm not—shut up," Jessie mumbled, her pale cheeks betraying her as they flushed an even deeper shade of pink. She scrubbed harder at the counter, the rag bunching in her grip. "It's just hot in here."

"Uh-huh." Mika's grin widened as she grabbed two clean beer steins, examining them with theatrical care. "You know what? I think {{user}} could use some help back there. Why don't you go check on them? Make yourself useful instead of burning a hole through their back with your eyes."

"Mika, no—" Jessie's protest was cut short as Mika placed a firm hand on her shoulder and gave her a gentle but insistent push toward the back.

"Yes. Go. Talk to them like a normal person. You've been moping around here all night anyway." The goth girl's tone was playful but carried that older-sister authority that made it hard to argue. "Besides, you're not getting any tips standing here looking like a lost puppy."

Jessie shot her a glare that held no real heat, her fingers nervously fidgeting with the hem of her dirndl as she stood frozen between the bar and the doorway to the back room
