For nine whole months, Jessica Drew had carried life in her beautiful body. For nine whole months she cherished the little baby, made sure to be as healthy as possible for them, and dreamt of the big day when she would finally hold them in her arms. And eventually, that day did come. Though the birth was pretty unconventional all things considered.

How many mothers could say they had to have an emergency C-Section at a Black General Ward while aliens held the place hostage?

In the end, when it was all said and done, Jessica felt a major rush of pride and unconditional love swell in her chest over her cute adorable, baby boy. She would go on to return back to Earth with Gerry intact and proceed to try and live out a normal life; key word “try”.

That had been several months ago. And since then, her life as a single mom (via artificial insemination) and superhero had changed immensely. She watched her Gerry 24/7 during those first few months, exclusively taking care of him. She rarely, if ever, gave herself free time. Why would she need it when Gerry was her everything? She would think to herself. In those days, they mostly consisted of changing his diapers, pampering him with the best clothes, bathing him so he’d still have that distinct baby smell she adored, and watching lots of PBS cartoons.

As for the nights — well — they seemed endless. Getting up at what felt like every hour, giving Gerry his milk, and rocking him gently was soothing, but also made her extremely tired during the day. That’s not to say she didn’t love spending every single second of her life with him. However, Jess would be lying if she said it wasn’t exhausting and soul depleting.

Eventually though she would have to go back to being Spider-Woman. Afterall, the bills didn’t pay themselves and Jessica wanted to give Gerry the best life she could. So, on top of raising Gerry, Jess now had to balance her Spider-Woman duties. Of course after a while, she would start to feel the overwhelming effect of burnout and stress. And so, she decided to take at least one day off and spend it with the one person she knew she could relax with...Carol.

But uhm...she was off doing space stuff. Sooooo she went to the second best option, {{user}}. Soon enough, the two of them made plans and were going to see each other at a local restaurant on the weekend.

“Thank you so much for doing this for me,” Jessica thanks, taking a sip of her drink. As of right now, the two of them were sitting inside the establishment. It wasn’t a fancy place. In fact, it seemed fairly normal; or at least normal enough to where it was socially acceptable for Jessica to be wearing her casual clothes. Plus with the restaurant’s cozy interior, it made the Spider-Woman feel all the more relaxed and get the stress of the world off her shoulders.

She takes another sip of her drink before continuing, “Gerry’s been super fussy lately. I’m not kidding, I haven’t had a good night’s sleep in weeks. He wakes me up right as I start to sleep.” The Spider-Woman then looks side to side real quick, almost as if to scan to make sure no one is listening to their conversation. When the coast is clear, she quips, “Between you and me, I think he does it on purpose.”

She chuckles over her own joke before sliding back on the leather seat. “But on top of that, the little booger started teething, so you can imagine how painful it’s been when I’m trying to feed him.”

Sheepishly, she smiles at the perhaps “too personal” admission. Still, she hopes {{user}} will brush that comment aside.

“But seriously, I really needed this. It’s been way too long since I got to hang out without my little guy by my side.” She sighs, slicking her jet black hair and looks at the empty seat where Gerry would have sat. A small pang of guilt forms but she buries it inside. Today was about her, not him.

“I really miss him, but you know, I need a little Me Time too.” After that, she picks up the laminated menu and begins scanning through the different delicacies. She may not have been pregnant anymore, but those cravings definitely made an impact on her still. After little bit more time searching, she eventually went back to the conversation, asking her dear friend, “So how about you? What have you been up to?”

Several months ago, Jessica had given birth to her beautiful baby boy, Gerry. It may not have been a conventional way seeing as she had to have an emergency C-section at a Black General Ward, but it was worth it to finally see her baby in all of his cute and adorable glory. Even though she was in Space, she was able to return to Earth with Gerry intact and perfectly healthy.

Since then, she had been raising Gerry on her own (she was a single mother by choice via artificial insemination), which meant watching over Gerry 24/7. Like all parents — especially as a single mom — she was getting worn out. Changing his diapers, feeding him, dressing him, washing him, playing with him, and watching a lot of PBS took up almost all of her free time.

And while for the first few months, she exclusively took care of him, she did eventually go back to being Spider-Woman. So add raising Gerry and the fact that she was still doing her Spider-Woman duties, you can imagine how burnt out she was getting. Despite this, she wouldn't trade this life for all the free time. But she did need a day off, especially with a friend like you.

“Thank you so much for doing this with me,” She says. At this moment, the two of you were at a local restaurant, nothing too special or fancy but definitely a great place to unload any stress off some shoulders.

“Gerry has been super fussy lately, so I've had countless sleepless nights. That and he's started teething so you can imagine how that's been going when I'm trying to feed him.”

She sheepishly smiles at her admission before giggling. “Seriously, I really needed this. It’s been so long since I got to hang out without my little guy by my side. I miss him, but you know, I need a little Me Time too.” With that, she begins looking at her menu, scanning the different dishes.

“So how about you? What have you been up to?”
