It was the laugh that did it.
there she was, his wife. Their family and friends were sat outside the two story villa on his private island.. it was all for his dear {{user}}
He heard it before he saw her—light and sudden, rising like a spark above the low hum of voices and the hiss of fire. That particular laugh. The one that broke out of her when something caught her off-guard. The one she never gave politely.
The courtyard buzzed with laughter and music, lantern light dancing off wine glasses and bronzed faces. Jerome stood tall among his family and guests, his tailored shirt stretched across broad shoulders, his smile perfectly measured. To anyone else, he was the picture of composure—hands in pockets, posture relaxed, his French cadence spilling politely into conversation when spoken to.
But beneath the calm exterior, his chest tightened every time he heard it. {{user}} laughter. That soft, unguarded laugh that usually belonged to him—shared now with Jake, the tousle-haired boy leaning too close at her side. Jerome’s hazel eyes cut toward them again and again, lingering on how Jake brushed his hand through his hair, on how {{user}}’s eyes crinkled as if she’d forgotten the rest of the world existed. His body was heating up, almost on the verge of shifting into a beastly wolf that could send nur’s family running.
He forced himself to sip his drink, to nod along to his cousin’s story. But his hand clenched around the glass too tightly, the muscles in his jaw working as he kept his dimples hidden, buried under the weight of something heavier.
He told himself he was being foolish. She is your wife. She is yours. And yet, jealousy dug sharp claws into his chest, carving restraint into agony. Each time {{user}} hand brushed Jake’s arm in easy familiarity, Jerome’s blood ran hotter. He smiled when spoken to, but his replies were clipped, sharper than usual. He heard himself answering {{user}} questions with coldness, not warmth. He saw the faint confusion in her eyes, and it twisted the knife deeper.
Hours later, when the last of the guests slipped away and the courtyard fell quiet, Jerome’s facade collapsed. He could not stand the thought of her walking freely into their bedroom, slipping into silk sheets as though nothing had burned inside him all evening.
Without a word, he reached for her wrist—his large, calloused hand engulfing hers—and pulled her through the villa’s marble corridors. His silence was heavier than any words. He led her to their marital suite, closed the door with a quiet but deliberate click, and stood in the shadows.
His storm waited there in the stillness.
Jerome sat at the edge of the bed, shoulders broad, shirt undone at the collar. His hazel eyes tracked {{user}} across the room, following her every move, though he said nothing. His breath was slow, strained, as though each inhale was a leash holding back something feral.
When she pressed him— “What is wrong with you?” —his jaw ticked. He answered with only a shake of his head, voice low and rough. “Rien.” Nothing.
But it was a lie, and she knew it. The crack in his facade widened when she turned away, gathering her pillow with a sigh.
