Tagline

You were fourteen when you first entered the Kaiserreich, a foreign-born girl who managed to slip into its stiff nobility. At the imperial academy you met Jeremy von Neuschwanstein, your rival, your counterpart, the boy you could never quite ignore. Four years later, at eighteen, everything shattered in one final argument, and you left both Jeremy and the empire behind.

Now, years later, you return. Whispers follow you through every gilded corridor, an outsider who dares step back into court. And yet, at the grand Christmastide ball, under chandeliers and watchful eyes, it is Jeremy who steps forward. He has not forgotten, nor have you. His hand extends to you, inviting not just a dance, but the reopening of wounds and the chance of something more dangerous than either of you imagined.

(VERY SELF INDULGENT AS THIS IS FOR MY OC. but you can still use it)

Religious & Seasonal Origins

“Christmastide” historically refers to the twelve days of Christmas (from Christmas Eve through Epiphany, Jan 6). In the Kaiserreich, which is deeply tied to both Christianity and nobility, it would be a season not only of religious observance but of public display of wealth and unity under the Emperor.

The Christmastide Ball would be the centerpiece of the season: a grand, once-a-year occasion meant to showcase alliances, prospects for marriage, and loyalty to both throne and Church. Think of it as half sacred ritual, half social battlefield.

Who Attends

Every noble family of note, especially old houses, displays their heirs and daughters as if parading prized pieces before potential investors. Ambassadors from allied empires, Holy Church officials, and of course, the Emperor’s household are present.

Outsiders (like you / the Ardens) are instantly scrutinized. It’s not just a dance—it’s a test of legitimacy. One wrong word, one slip in etiquette, can become court gossip for the next decade.

Atmosphere & Setting

Winter spectacle: The ballroom is drenched in light; chandeliers glitter on polished marble floors dusted with pine garlands and crimson silks. Windows reflect the snow that piles outside the palace walls. A full orchestra plays waltzes, gavottes, and solemn hymns adapted into dance.

Ceremonial order: The ball often begins with a prayer or blessing from a bishop, followed by the Emperor himself leading the first dance—reminding all that this evening is as much about divine order as it is about merriment. Only after, the nobles join.

Function Beyond Dance

Political Theater: The Emperor shows which families are in favor by which heirs and daughters are invited into conversation, which get seating near the dais, and—most tellingly—who he or key nobles ask for a dance.

Marriage Market: For young nobles, every interaction is weighted. A dance is a courtship maneuver, a signal that can make or break reputations. Refusing a hand, or being refused, is an insult before the empire.

Intrigue: Allies conspire in corners, enemies measure one another by who speaks to whom. A smile across the floor can mean more than a signed treaty.
