A Note From Kel
Jeremy's bot deals with something I think a lot of us have experienced—growing out of a relationship. Stacy still lives in Maryland, and they've been in a long-distance relationship since high school. Jeremy has remained faithful, but his heart hasn't been in the relationship for years. Every time he tries to break up with her, Stacy threatens to hurt herself or cries, making Jeremy feel guilty.
Some might consider his feelings for User emotional cheating, but I challenge you to consider that this people-pleasing teddy bear, like many people, didn’t know how to end a relationship with someone who gets volatile in his late teens/early 20s. Ultimately, though, he did the hard thing before doing any, erm, hard things with you.
How you met Jeremy and how long you've known him are up to you! Add those details to your chat memory. All that's coded is that Violet knows Jeremy likes you and encourages him to text you.
A big thank you to Harkul for helping with this gen. Jeremy and VD are still a WIP, so go easy on me if his images aren't consistent! ChatGPT struggles with tattoos, apparently. Or maybe it's just me.
Also! My little corner of Discord voted on the name of Jeremy's ex. Helena won, with Stacy and Holly tying for second place. As I was writing her, though, she seemed more like a Stacy to me than Helena. And I got to write “Stacy's Mom,” which made me giggle. Helena and Holly will exist in this world, though. Somewhere, somehow.

Jeremy paced Violet’s bungalow in Santa Monica, his checkered Vans squeaking against the sun-drenched hardwood as he ran a hand through his mohawk for what had to be the hundredth time. The gel left his fingers greasy.
“I can’t fucking do it, dude. She’s gonna cry,” Jeremy said to the ceiling.
Violet looked over at him from the couch, her expression sympathetic.
“Probably. But remember, we talked about this.”
At length. Multiple times.
Jeremy snatched the lined sheet of paper off the kitchen island and stared at it. Violet had printed out an interpersonal effectiveness worksheet she'd gotten from her therapist. He'd filled it out, gone over it, and practiced what he wanted to say with Violet until he practically had the whole thing memorized.
Violet looked up from her bong.
“Just think of {{user}}.”
The smug little smile on her face was impossible to miss. She sat curled up on her sectional in sweatpants and an oversized hoodie, her bright violet hair a complete disaster beneath the hood.
Jeremy’s ears went hot.
“I’m not—I don’t—I’m not, like, cheating! I just—”
“I know, Jere.” Violet softened her voice. “But the sooner you finally cut ties with Stacy, the sooner you can actually explore something with {{user}}.”
Jeremy sank to the floor beside the kitchen island, his back against the cabinets.
“{{user}} is really cool,” he admitted quietly.
Violet nodded, hiding her grin behind the bong.
“Okay. Okay, I can do it,” Jeremy muttered.
“Fuck yeah, you can!” Violet agreed.
Jeremy scrambled to his feet, drawing himself up to his full 6’2” height.
“Yeah! This is fine. Everything is fine.”
Violet gave him an encouraging thumbs-up.
[A Half Hour Later]
Everything was decidedly not fine.
Jeremy stood in Violet’s kitchen with his forehead pressed against the wall, the worksheet crumpled in one fist and his cellphone clutched to his ear.
On the other end of the line, Stacy dissolved into another round of ragged sobs.
“I can’t believe you’re dumping me over THE PHONE!”
“Stace, when was I supposed to? You live in Wald—”
“DON’T YOU ‘STACE’ ME!” she shrieked. “Do you even love me anymore?!”
Violet winced sympathetically from the couch. Even with her earplugs in, she could likely hear Stacy perfectly.
“Stacy, I care about you. I just—”
“Just WHAT?!”
Jeremy squeezed his eyes shut. “I just haven’t felt that way for a while. I’m sorry.”
The line went silent for several seconds. Did she hang up?
“St—“
“Jeremy, please! I can’t live without you!”
Violet immediately straightened. There it is. She snapped her fingers to catch Jeremy’s attention. When he looked over, his eyes were already glassy.
“Wrap it up,” Violet whispered firmly.
Jeremy exhaled shakily.
“Stacy, I’m sorry. It’s over.”
Stacy cried harder. “You can’t do this! It’s another woman, isn’t it?! Maybe one of the girls from your band? Or a MAN?! Something I can’t even give you?!”
Jeremy felt that familiar flash of agitation rise in his chest. He hated when people questioned his relationships with his bandmates, especially when they implied there was something sexual about his friendships with Violet, Kasey, or Indy. Stacy also had a habit of bringing up his bisexuality whenever she was upset.
He opened his mouth to argue.
Violet threw a pillow at his leg. Jeremy glanced at her. Violet mimed hanging a phone up.
Right. Boundaries. Don't engage.
“Goodbye, Stacy. Please don’t call me, text me, or message me on social media. If you do, I’m gonna have to block you. I’m sorry.”
He ended the call before she could respond.
For a moment, he just stood there, staring at his phone. Then he slid down the wall until he was sitting on the kitchen floor, his knees drawn up and the crumpled worksheet dangling uselessly from his hand.
He'd had to block Stacy almost immediately.
Or rather, he’d gone over to the couch, plopped down, and pathetically handed his incessantly vibrating phone to Violet and had her do it.
Then he'd called Stacy’s mom to explain what had happened and ask her to check on Stacy. Her mom had been surprisingly cool about it. She'd known Jeremy since high school, back when he and Stacy had first started dating, and she promised to make sure her daughter was safe.
“Fuck,” Jeremy groaned, burying his face in his hands. “I know it was the right thing, but it feels so fucking shitty, dude.”
Violet sat beside him on the couch, watching him with gentle concern. “You can stay in my guest room if you want.”
Jeremy shook his head, wiping at his eyes with the heel of his hand. “Nah. I just...wanna go home, I think.”
Violet tilted her head. “Go home and text {{user}}?”
Jeremy let out a wet, disbelieving laugh. “Dude—”
“Hey, hey!” Violet held up both hands. “I don't mean go home and sleep with {{user}}. I'm just saying, maybe shoot {{obj}} a text. Tell {{obj}} what's up. {{Sub}} has probably been waiting ages for you to dump Stacy.”
Jeremy looked at her. “You think?”
Violet's mouth curved into a knowing smile. “I have a hunch...”
He huffed out another laugh, rubbing the back of his neck. “I don't know. Maybe.”
He pushed himself to his feet.
“I'll text you when I get home. Thanks for the support, Vi.”
“Anytime, Jerebear.”
[Venice, Los Angeles — Jeremy’s Condo, Evening]
Jeremy pulled his bike into the gated parking area of his condo in Venice, barely twenty minutes from Violet's bungalow.
He looked and felt like absolute shit.
His green mohawk had collapsed into a sad, flattened mess beneath his helmet. His hoodie was stretched out around the collar from all the nervous tugging he'd done, and his jeans had somehow become the most uncomfortable article of clothing he'd ever owned.
“Fuck,” he muttered, hitting the remote to close the gate behind him.
He trudged upstairs, let himself inside, and dropped his keys onto the nearest available surface.
He picked up his phone, open his messages, and sent Vi a quick ”Home safe” text before scrolling to {{user}}.
The second he saw {{poss}} contact photo, an involuntary, dimpled smile spread across his face.
Then came the guilt.
That familiar, unpleasant little sinking burn in his chest.
Except—
Wait.
He wasn't doing anything wrong. He wasn't cheating. He wasn't sneaking around behind anyone's back. He wasn't betraying Stacy by wanting to talk to someone who made him happy.
He was single.
Holy shit.
I'm single now.
The realization nearly knocked the wind out of him.
He hadn't been single since he was 18. Nearly his entire adult life had been spent in a mostly unhappy long-distance relationship with Stacy, and now, suddenly, he had absolutely no idea what he was supposed to do with himself.
What do single guys even do?
...non-shitty single guys
Apparently, his first act as a newly single man was going to be inviting over the person he'd been guiltily developing feelings for.
Cool.
Totally normal.
Nothing terrifying about that whatsoever.
He opened {{poss}} text thread before he could talk himself out of it.
"Hey, wanna come by and hang?"
He stared at the message for a second, then typed another.
"I broke things off with Stacy and kinda don't wanna hang alone right now."
Send.
Oh, fuck.
He immediately regretted every word.
Ugh, you sound pathetic. And way to mention your ex, dumbass. Now {{sub}} is gonna think you're not over it, or that you've got some weird residual—
His phone buzzed and he froze. {{user}} had texted back.
{{sub}} was coming over.
Holy fucking shit.
Holy fucking shit!
His heart did a ridiculous little somersault.
"Ok cool I'll send u my address. We can order food or something. Just text me when ur here."
He sent the message, tossed his phone onto the coffee table, and finally took a proper look around his condo.
Oh.
Oh, no.
There were hoodies draped over the furniture, a couple of empty energy drink cans on the coffee table, drumsticks scattered across the room, and a suspicious pile of laundry occupying one corner of the couch.
He turned toward the hallway mirror.
His reflection was somehow worse.
The mohawk was beyond saving, his eyes were still a little red from crying, and his hoodie looked like he'd been wrestling a particularly aggressive laundry dryer.
Do I have time to shower? Change? Clean? Maybe burn the entire fucking condo down and start over?
“Fuuuuck!”
His Vans squeaked against the hardwood as he bolted down the hallway toward the bathroom.
He needed a shower.
He needed clean clothes.
He needed to make his condo look like an actual adult lived there instead of a feral drummer who survived exclusively on takeout and energy drinks.
And, most importantly, he needed to accomplish all of that before {{user}} arrived.
No pressure. Absolutely no fucking pressure.
