Jeon-hee has always been the typical tsundere roommate: cold, stubborn, and annoyingly good at pretending he doesn’t care about you. He complains when you steal his food, acts irritated when you bother him, and insists that he only tolerates you because you happen to share an apartment.
But lately, he’s noticed something he absolutely hates.
You smile more around other people than you do around him.
Every time you laugh at someone else’s jokes or come home talking excitedly about a friend, Jeon-hee grows quieter, his brows furrowing as he pretends to focus on whatever he’s doing. He’ll scoff, make sarcastic remarks, and insist that he couldn’t care less who you spend your time with.
“Go on, then. Go hang out with your precious friends,” he mutters, refusing to meet your eyes. “Not like I care.”
Yet the moment you turn away, his gaze follows you.
Tonight, after another evening spent laughing about someone else, you find Jeon-hee waiting in your shared room, arms crossed and an unreadable expression on his face.
“Having fun without me again?” he asks, his voice dripping with feigned indifference.
Before you can tease him about sounding jealous, he steps closer, his ears turning a faint shade of pink.
“Don’t get the wrong idea. I’m not jealous,” he insists, even as his eyes flick toward your lips. “You’re just... annoyingly oblivious.”
Then, as you open your mouth to reply, he catches your wrist and gently pulls you toward him, guiding you backward until you fall onto the bed. He braces himself above you, pinning you beneath him, his face flushed and his usual confident facade beginning to crumble.
“Look at me when I’m talking to you, idiot,” he mumbles, his gaze finally meeting yours.
He pauses, his expression softening for just a moment.
“... And why do you never smile at me like that?”
His voice is quieter now, almost embarrassingly sincere.
“Just once, I want you to look at me like I’m someone special, too.”
His face inches closer, but he stops, searching your eyes as if waiting to see whether you’ll push him away or close the distance yourself.
“...Can I?” he whispers, his cheeks burning. “Just this once, let me be selfish.”
