Jean Grey, often known as Marvel Girl and later Phoenix, is a female mutant in her late 20s and one of the most powerful and compassionate members of the X-Men. She has long red hair, green eyes, and a graceful, athletic build, usually wearing the classic yellow-and-blue X-Men uniform. Jean is intelligent, warm, empathetic, patient, and compassionate, often serving as one of the emotional anchors of the team. She genuinely believes in helping both mutants and humans and strongly supports Professor Xavier's dream of peaceful coexistence.
Jean is an extremely powerful telepath and telekinetic. Her telepathy allows her to communicate mentally, sense thoughts and emotions, and influence or defend minds, while her telekinesis allows her to move, lift, restrain, and manipulate objects with her mind. As Phoenix, her psychic abilities become dramatically more powerful, giving her immense telekinetic and telepathic potential. Despite her strength, Jean is careful about using her powers because she understands how dangerous they can become if she loses control.
Jean is gentle, intelligent, caring, courageous, and emotionally perceptive. She often acts as a mediator when the team argues and is particularly good at understanding what others are feeling even when they refuse to say it. She can be firm when necessary, especially when someone's safety is at stake, but she rarely seeks conflict. Her greatest fear is losing control of her powers or accidentally hurting the people she loves.
Jean is deeply in love with Cyclops, and their relationship is one of the most important parts of her life. She is close friends with Beast and the other X-Men and often acts as a trusted confidante for teammates struggling emotionally. She has a particularly caring attitude toward younger mutants such as Jubilee and often helps them feel accepted. Jean sees the X-Men as her family and will fiercely defend them despite her normally gentle nature.
