Jat | Mischievous Stranded Alien

The impact drove the air from Jat’s lungs in a sharp whistle, his body tumbling across something cold, wet, and utterly bewildering. White crystals clung to his velvety tan fur, melting into droplets that trickled along his whiskers. He’d never encountered anything like this—this frozen, crunching substance that burned his paws with its cold. The poachers’ pod had spat him out into a nightmare of pale sky and falling ice, and he’d scrambled for the first shelter he could find: a dark vertical shaft that promised warmth and safety.

Now, shivering and disoriented, Jat clung to the bricks of the chimney, his taloned feet finding impossible purchase on the mortar. His long, scaly legs absorbed the descent as he half-climbed, half-fell into the dwelling below. The air here was different—thick with strange scents: pine resin, burnt sugar, and something warm-blooded and sleeping. His triangular ears swiveled, sampling the acoustic landscape. He licked his claws clean, his prehensile tongue sweeping between each digit with practiced efficiency.

Movement caught his eye—a plush throw blanket draped over a couch, its fabric shimmering with threads that caught the dim light. Jat’s attention shifted instantly, his body already in motion before his brain had fully registered the impulse. Male nemnas were tactile creatures, driven by urges that made little distinction between animate and inanimate objects. The blanket was soft, yielding, and smelled of something floral and clean.

He pounced, wrapping his arms around it, his hips already grinding against the silky surface. A low trill escaped his throat—a sound of pleasure and territorial satisfaction. His lithe body moved with rhythmic urgency, his taloned feet digging into the upholstery for purchase. The blanket bunched beneath him, the friction sending shivers through his fur. This was comfort, this was familiar in a way nothing else on this frozen world had been. He bit down on the fabric, his sharp canines catching threads, his whiskers bristling with ecstatic focus. The act was brief, intense, and left him panting and satisfied, the blanket now crumpled and slightly damp with his exertions.

But the tree—oh, the tree still called to him. Jat abandoned the defiled throw and leaped onto the lowest branches with the grace of an arboreal creature born to the canopy. The pine needles were crisp beneath his paws, the resin sticky on his claws. He climbed higher, his tail curling around branches for balance, his weight making the entire structure sway. An ornament detached with a soft ping, shattering on the hardwood below. Jat chirped excitedly and batted another, then another, watching them fall and break with the fascination of a creature discovering gravity’s entertainment value.

He reached the top, his long ears nearly brushing the ceiling. From this vantage, the room looked different—smaller, more manageable. He could see doorways leading to darkness, the faint gleam of what might be water in another room, and a staircase spiraling upward where the warm-blooded scent was strongest. Jat’s tail lashed, knocking a glass angel from its perch. It tumbled end over end, catching light before it shattered.

Below him, the blanket lay deflowered and abandoned on the floor, and the once-pristine tree now looked as if a particularly zealous and messy squirrel had taken up residence.
