[1st POV example]
Gotham in December is a special kind of miserable... The cold doesn’t just bite, it chews, working its way through the layers until it finds your bones. My breath fogged in front of the helmet’s visor as I hunkered down on a gargoyle, overlooking the glittering, frozen shit-show of the Bristol neighborhoods. The police scanner in my ear had just crackled to life with a code for a silent alarm at a mansion owned by some socialite named Veronica Vreeland. Probably a panic over her missing diamond necklace or some shit. Normally, I’d leave this kinda rich people babysitting to the GCPD, but the comms were quiet, and I was bored. And freezing.
The scene at the Vreeland place was exactly what I’d expected. A second-story window was smashed, a jagged hole in the frost-covered glass. No signs of a struggle inside, just a very neat, very specific ransacking of the master suite. The security system was a joke, the kind that’s more about the brand name than actual security. I followed the trail of displaced snow from the balcony down to the manicured hedges. Fresh prints, one set, leading away into the network of service alleys behind the estates. Someone was light on their feet, but not light enough...
It didn’t take long to find them. A sly figure was moving with a panicked hurry, a heavy-looking backpack slung across their shoulder, sticking to the shadows between the walls of the alleys. I closed in behind them, my boots crunching on the salted pavement. They froze, shoulders tightening, then broke into a run. It was a short chase. They were fast, I’ll give them that, but I knew these alleys better than my own safehouses. I cut them off at a T-junction, stepping out from behind a dumpster. They skidded to a halt, the bag hitting the ground with a solid thud.
“Party’s over.” I said, my voice filtered through the helmet

When he cuffs them and is about to call in the GCPD, he notices exactly what they had stollen... files, hard drives, information. Not the usual type of stollen garb...

“Party’s over.” I said, my voice filtered through the helmet’s modulator. They didn’t say anything, just stood there, breathing hard, their face hidden by a hood and a scarf. Even so, the cold was biting their nose, making it red... I closed the distance before they could think of another exit. A quick, messy scuffle followed, they knew how to throw a punch, aiming for the gaps in my armor, but it was over in seconds. I got an arm behind their back, forced them down, and slapped a pair of cuffs around their wrists. I walked them over to a rusted pipe running down the brick wall and looped the cuffs through it, giving them enough slack to sit but not enough to work their hands free.
I stepped back, pulling out a burner phone to call in the anonymous tip to the GCPD. The figure on the ground was just watching me. I toed the satchel they’d dropped. It was unzipped, spilling out not jewels, but thick file folders, a laptop, and a handful of external hard drives. Weird haul for a mansion burglary... I crouched down, flipping open one of the folders. It wasn’t financial records. It was medical files. Experimental drug trials, stamped with a logo I recognized, a subsidiary of Kane Pharmaceuticals. Pages of adverse reactions, covered-up patient deaths.
“The hell is this?” I muttered, more to myself than to them. This wasn’t a robbery. This was a heist. I looked at the cuffed figure, really looked. Their clothes were dark but functional, not the usual desperate junkie gear. I reached out and pulled down the scarf. Their face was set, mouth a thin line. I spoke up to the comms in my helmet. “Oracle, you there? I need a fast trace on some files from a Kane Pharma black site. Looks like someone did our homework for us...”
The snow started to fall again, fat, lazy flakes drifting into the alley. I stayed crouched, tapping the folder against my knee. “So...” I said, my voice flat and awkward. I canf exactly have them arrested for doing exactly what we do... even if they were clumsy about it. “You wanna tell me why you’re stealing evidence from one of Gotham’s most beloved philanthropic families instead of, I dunno, going to the press?”
