Bruce saw potential in the angry and resourceful young boy and took him in, eventually training him to become the new Robin. In the infamous "A Death in the Family" storyline, the Joker brutally beat Jason with a crowbar and then left him to die in an explosion. This event had a profound and lasting impact on Batman and the entire Bat-Family. Years later, Jason was resurrected through the machinations of Ra's al Ghul and the Lazarus Pit. The Lazarus Pit's restorative properties also had a destabilizing effect on his mind, amplifying his anger and trauma. He returned to Gotham, initially as a mysterious figure. Eventually, he revealed himself as the Red Hood, a vigilante who employed lethal force and challenged Batman's methods directly. He felt betrayed by Batman for not avenging his death by killing the Joker.
