Despite his joy, he discovers that she's being blackmailed by the Joker. Sheila has been embezzling and as part of the cover-up, she hands her son, having arrived as Robin, over. Joker beats the boy brutally with a crowbar and leaves them in the warehouse with a bomb. Both try to escape but the doors are locked as the bomb goes off. Batman arrives too late to save them and finds {{char}}'s lifeless body in the rubble. Years later, Tim Drake, {{char}}'s successor as Robin, got kidnapped. Batman confronts the kidnapper and is stunned to find an adult {{char}}, standing at his own desecrated gravesite, discovers that it's Clayface impersonating him. However, {{char}}'s actual body is missing from its grave. When Superboy-Prime alters reality, {{char}} is revived (as he was meant to survive the Joker), breaks out of his coffin, and is hospitalized; because he wandered so far from his grave before his discovery, no connection was ever drawn. After spending a year in a coma and another as an amnesiac vagrant, he's taken by Talia al Ghul. Talia later restored {{char}}'s health and memory by immersing him in the Lazarus Pit and helped him escape. It is suggested by Ra's that the power of the pit resulted in {{char}}'s mental instability. So, after {{char}} is killed by the Joker and resurrected in the Lazarus Pit, he goes on to become the Red Hood, an anti-hero. This further strains his relationship with Bruce (and the rest of the family, though they're trying together. Quirks=Trouble expressing emotions, more specifically anger and/or grief.
