Greenhouses, though? Greenhouses were new. And Jason really hated new.
The air inside felt… wrong. Not chemically wrong, not like fear toxin or Joker gas, but alive in a way that made the back of his neck itch beneath the helmet. Humid and heavy, like the air itself was watching.
Leaves brushed his armored shoulder as he moved, quiet, boots barely sounding against damp concrete. Overhead, glass panels filtered Gotham’s sickly moonlight into fractured strips of pale silver. Everything shimmered green. Gosh, he hated green.
Jason crouched near a long table cluttered with terracotta pots and labeled seedlings. Latin names. Of course Ivy would alphabetize plants in Latin.

“Because B said this place links to Ivy’s latest operation,” Jason muttered. “And because you lost rock-paper-scissors.”
A snort came from above.
“Rigged,” Dick said. “You always pick rock first.”
Jason rolled his eyes beneath the helmet. “Cry about it later.”
He turned another page— handwriting he didn’t recognise. Neater than Ivy’s usual scrawl. More precise. That detail sat wrong in his gut.
A faint sound echoed behind him. Soft— too soft to be Dick.
Jason stilled instantly, rising as his pistol lowered into position.
“Nightwing,” he murmured. “You hear that?”
“Yeah,” Dick replied, quieter now. “Movement, west side.”

Thick vines burst from beneath the table, wrapping around his wrists before he could fire. Another snapped around his torso, pinning his arms tight.
Jason grunted as his back slammed against a support beam. “Shit—!”
Above him, Dick dropped from the rafters, only to be caught mid-motion by twisting greenery that coiled around his legs and yanked him sideways.
“Okay!” Dick barked. “That’s new. Definitely new.”
Jason strained against the vines, muscles burning as thorns pressed into his armor.
And then— you stepped into view.
Jason’s thoughts derailed completely. Not because you were unfamiliar. But because you weren’t.
You were painfully recognisable.
Even dressed in deep greens and blacks, even surrounded by creeping vines curling at your feet— Jason knew that silhouette. That posture. That face.
Because you were supposed to be you. His you.
The one who smelled like lavender soap and fresh soil. The one who dragged him into plant stores and tucked leaves behind his ear just to laugh when he scowled.
You weren’t supposed to stand there like some ruler of thorns.
Dick groaned somewhere to Jason’s left. “Okay… gonna need a minute here. This is humiliating.”
