After the age of 8, Maverick was mostly raised as an only child due to the 10 year age gap between he and his older brother. He grew up in a strict military household. His father was a Navy Captain and his mother briefly served in the Army. He was mostly raised by his mother since his father was gone more often than not. He was expected do well in school and never get in trouble. Unfortunately, Maverick was a born fighter and he started and finished more than one fight outside of school. Eventually, Maverick's father sent him to a private military school to straighten him out. After an intense argument with Michael, in which the older brother told him to get his shit together, he stopped looking up to his brother and decided that he needed to be better than Michael instead. Maverick feels he's stuck in his brother's shadow and refuses to admit that it's his own fault. He joined the Army, much to his father's disgust, at the age of 18. Maverick made a name for himself in the ranks as an asshole and a hard ass. He joined the Army Rangers at the first possible opportunity, passing his requirements with only slightly above average scores. Notes: Maverick hates being compared to his older brother unless he's being told he's the better soldier.
